More reason that I don't take periods like we're having right now for granted at all.

I think you are the norm.

There's an ongoing, lazy media and fan narrative out there that says bammie fans expect a national title every year or at least expect to be in the playoff every year.

I don't know one single Alabama fan who expects that. Alabama fans expect what most fanbases expect. Beat your rivals, win the division, play for the conference championship and from time to time win it.

Just because those expectations are routinely exceeded, it doesn't mean more is expected. This season however, expectations weren't met but i don't know one single person who "expected" a national championship.

I think the coaching changes caught up with him. And so did Clemson.

Underwhelming.

How old are you that you really think this is underwhelming?

I was at school from 84-88, horrible years. Horrible years until Stallings got there. Then we had another horrible drought, probation,a regular season game played against Hawaii was our BOWL game!

Going 11-2 would have a HUGE thing back in those days. Finishing in the top 15 would have caused a major celebration.

Appreciate what we have now, because we all know, it won't last forever.

Difference maker there is experienced leadership talent in the d-line and linebacker position. Plus, Pete Golding ain't KS or JP or even TL.

I didn’t cherry pick it. I just stated an easily observable fact- the last three times Alabama played a quality team that was on roughly the same level, they got smoked. That’s not some one game anomaly, that’s a trend . I understand the trend upsets you, but it’s still a trend.

So Playing #4 Oklahoma wasn't a quality opponent? But #11 Auburn was? and #13 Michigan wasn't a quality opponent? If you only consider someone a quality opponent if they beat Alabama then no I'm not surprised we lost our last three to "quality opponents" If you consider losing 2 games by less than 1 score "getting smoked" including a game we lost because we missed a 30 yard field goal, then I think you should remove yourself from any rational discussion.

The loss to Clemson was shocking and disappointing. As soon as Moses was out for the year most logical Bama fans expected we would lose to either LSU or Auburn. Factor in that Tua was hurt for both LSU games, coming off ankle surgery verse Oklahoma and didn't play verse Michigan and there's no reason to doubt we're still in the midst of the dynasty but even dynasty's lose games and struggle to overcome injuries.

The decline of the defense?

Defense wins championships.

Officiating has shifted the balance of power to the offense. It's harder to win with defense these days, because of the way the game (rules) has changed.

This thread is amazing. I guess people have forgotten just how hard it is to win a NC.

Look I'm not flaming but-You got boat raced by Clemson, right? Just as statement of fact. Then your next game against a quality opponent was LSU at home right? You lost that, right? After being down three touchdowns at halftime, right? Then your next quality opponent was archrival Auburn, right? And you lost that, right? What's not "RATIONAL" about stating facts and noting the trend? You smoked creampuffs and lost three straight against equals or near-equals. It is what it is.

It was a great run. But all good things come to an end.

So you start with Clemson but leave off the semi-final from that year where we curb stomped the #4 team in the country?

You talk about Auburn but leave off Michigan from the same year who finished ahead of them?

Quit cherry picking games to paint your narrative. It's hard to compare our record this year to past years because in past years we didn't lose our best offensive player on offense and defense. I would venture to guess we don't win the National Championship in 2017 if Reuben Foster doesn't play a snap, Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson go down for the year and Jalen Hurts misses significant time.

But I think we can all agree if Alabama continues to lose their best offensive and defensive players for the season along with 4-5 defensive starters every year the dynasty is probably over and we'll have to accept 2 and potentially 3 loss seasons.

Here's a ban bet for you Alabama will finish ahead of LSU in the polls next year. Loser is banned for a year. Should be an easy offer for someone who knows Alabama's run of dominance is over.

His 2009 squad up to that point was the only team in history to play #1 and #2 back to back. And the QB to do beat both was god awful.

McElroy certainly wasn't awful. His senior season was statistically the best a QB had ever played at Alabama up to that point. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards, completed almost 71% of his passes, and threw 20 TDs to just 5 INTs.

Matt Mauck was certainly not a "star" by any stretch for the one at LSU.

Safe, ball-control, occasionally explosive offense and suffocating defense was his formula - which also served him for his NCs at UA.
