Orgeron, Pelini, Mason are all hot heads. He and Orgeron will fist fight every day at practice. I give him one year as DC and gone. All those 3 guys want to be head dicks in charge and take their own orders.

Mason vs Orgeron is a fight I'd absolutely pay to watch on PPV though.

Mason is tough but Orgeron has cave man strength. He would see red and rip everyone apart

Smart hire. Wait, didn't LSU put up like 67 on masons defense last year?

He wasnt hired ,hes been contacted for an interview.

Theres a story on the coaching changes board saying our top target is the dc from Cincinnati. Apparently hes a hot commodity though so who knows what he will do . Hes only 33 years old so the tiger rant loves him .

Top three on the list for dc are the guy from Cincinnati, ryan Nielsen who is a d line coach from the saints, and Derek mason.

Mason has supposedly been contacted by three different power 5 teams and we are one of them. He would be a good hire, I bet.

It's almost impossible to evaluate a coach at Vanderbilt lately because they have fell off even further then in the past. He was great at Stanford though.

He would be. The guy's really smart.
PS-NOBODY can consistently win a Vandy anymore.

Exactly, Vandy fans think he can’t run a defense just because their defense was completely outmatched by teams they were no where near in talent

Mason is a great defensive mind and I’m sure he’d be a fine hire

Meh. If you can't handle a passionate hot-headed DC under your authority then you got no business as an SEC head coach. O will handle it fine.

This would be a solid hire, though, and Mason deserves to get his career back on track.

Saw plenty of teams that were outmatched at defense that didn't have guys look as bad as Vandy in the last 7 years.

Franklin had similar talent and the defense was better under him.
Heck, Vandy usually had an ok defense under Bobby Johnson too.

I hope he goes somewhere and kills it! I just have my doubts that he's such a "great" defensive mind bc of his time at Stanford. Vandys a tough job, I get it... but he's also stubborn and made no adjustments and didn't show me much in 7 years.
