This one stings I hate to hear this. Not from my generation but I know of him because he was from Knoxville. We missed out on a great one!

Chuck Howley was selected as MVP of a Super Bowl that the Cowboys lost to the Colts.

I think he’s the only player ever selected SBMVP from the losing team.

Man I miss the NFL of the 70s and 80s. I can damn near name every starter for Dallas during those times and DD was a great one

Growing up in Dallas I crossed paths with his daughter. I remember her being a really nice person.

The entire lot of original Cowboys that made up America’s Team were great people with great families.

I’m pretty sure he played at Fulton HS in Knoxville. Dated a girl from there before I joined the Navy. Former wrestler Buddy Landel was from Fulton High also. He won the NWA title beating Dutch Mantell then lost it to Koko B Ware, lol.

I remember DD Lewis came to speak at chapel when I was in HS. Great motivational speaker.

The Cowboys have won 5 Super Bowls, but have the record for 7 Super Bowl MVP’s.

They are the only team to have an MVP from the losing team, and to have two players share the award (Harvey Martin and Randy White in SB XII). No Cowboy has more than one.

Dd Lewis was really good, but I think Leroy Jordan played MLB.

The Cowboy linebacker names I remember from back when are

DD Lewis
Lee Roy Jordan
Chuck Howley
Bob Bruenig
Hollywood Henderson

NFL players weren't rich back then.

True. But, Roger Staubach did go on to become one of if not the richest former NFL player in history.

Damn. Mr DD was a good man. My dad played with him at state and they roomed together. He had great stories from the golden era of the Dallas Cowboys. May he RIP.
