Auburn owned Alabama in football.
For the time frame the OP is referencing saying Saban inherited a better program, yes. That time frame was probably the lowest point of Bama's entire football history save for maybe the Ears Whitworth days from the '50s (Maybe, don't recall his exact tenure).
Thus, the OP is terribly wrong on Bama's health as a program before Saban took over.

I agree with that. lol I think it was at least partly due to probation of some kind. And I think the SEC was much better as a whole back then.
I think much of Saban's success is the fact that SEC teams in general have struggled on offense during his tenure.
I would love to see Spurrier's Florida teams going against Saban's Alabama teams.
Teams like LSU and Florida have had some solid defenses in recent years but they don't get any help from the offense. If those teams get a little juice on offense, Saban's reign will be over quickly I think.
Update...Auburn beat Bama 6 times in a row, and won 7 out of 8 in the 00's.

It is hard to believe you are a Clemson fan given you are attacking me. It is cool if you want to suckup to Bama on here but don't expect other Clemson fans to do that.
I expect Clemson fans to act with class and know their football history. I have watched enough disappointing Clemson seasons to know that we are living in high cotton right now. College football is a fickle mistress.
PS You might want to do a quick Google search of this guy named Bear Bryant. There was another one named Gene Stallings that won some games for Alabama.

Is acting like class talking down to people?
Being classy doesn't mean I have to be a clone of a redneck like you.
I'm aware of Bear Bryant now but that only because Alabama's history gets forced down everybody's throat after Saban started winning titles there.
Why should Clemson fans care about Alabama's football history? lol You seem to be an Alabama fan.
I don't even care that much about Clemson's football history. I just want to see some good games this season. It is entertainment, not history class.
I was at Clemson during the Tommy West years. You don't need to lecture me about the bad years. lol Clemson was a 'basketball school' when I was there. lol

If by being a clempson man you mean how to molest men on tv, yelling at police " do you know who I am", and sleeping with your mom then I agree.

You know I really agree with everything you said. But one small thing you left out...... He is going to keep winning after Saban is gone. But at bama!lol

Saban inherited Alabama but has done a good job keeping them near the top every year
Yeah, what coach wouldn’t have loved to inherit the Alabama Football program from Mike Shula? Shula left it in outstanding shape.

Bama didn't win their division last year but you act like no other team was in their league. lol
Well I know for a fact no other team is in their division. The division of 2018 D1 College football national champions. Your team couldnt even score a touchdown in the playoffs. What an awful team that didn't belong.

No one is forcing anything down anyone’s throat but when you come on here talking stupid shite like you didn’t know Bama was ever good before Saban you are a troll an idiot are more likely both.
Bama clowned you fools last year beat the dogshit out of your overrated team with Hurts at QB. Let that sink in a moment.

Deshaun Watson ain’t walking though that door. Enjoy steam rolling the joke that is the ACC and losing to Bama again in the playoffs.

why is this relevant to non Alabama fans? It is just trivia.
my point was from the mid 90s to Saban's first good season at Bama, i didn't think of Bama as a powerhouse in college fball.
i see people still refer to Texas as a 'blueblood' but they have lost to Maryland to open the season two years in a row.

I'm an actual fan and student of the game. You're just happy to be there with your thumbs in your suspenders.

lol
true fans just want to watch good games.
i couldn't care less about many titles a team won decades ago.
any wins during the segregation era have a huge asterisk next to them because the results of those games would likely be different if black kids were allowed to play.

George Wallace stood on the doorsteps of your university building to block black students from enrolling.
