More than 1/2 of the players won't get an offer or will have to accept a serious downgrade.
I sure hope so. It's time for greed to punish someone other than the fans.

If you're coaching staff waited until now to evaluate these players, they aren't doing it right.
What you are saying is that coaching staffs should keep running evaluations on every player on every team. Because how would they avoid "waiting until now" to evaluate the 6000 players in the portal.
That makes no sense. No college football staff has that kind of bandwidth.

Absolutely, now there's unlimited staff. I'd have someone assigned to each conference, looking for players to poach.

It is a disgrace how college football has been ruined and in such a short period of time.
All it took was one paragraph by Brett Kavanaugh to fundamentally and permanently alter CFB...
"Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate. And under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different.
The NCAA is not above the law."

It's gonna be tax time soon, how does that work for these kids?
Seems like it's earned income with no taxes paid. Contract work...

The Supreme Court gutted the ability of the NCAA to enforce any regulations
The NIL ruling made college football players mercenaries - the same as pro football
The Transfer portal made free agency and tampering a never ending cycle
The amount of money from TV contracts gave ESPN all the control to make it a popularity contest based on their perspectives
There are lots of reasons why the system is chaos
Will it implode?
Who knows, but it’s a runaway train at this point

Now, the sheer volume of portal players to date is more than a little shocking to say the least.

I'm not sure that number is accurate. That's almost half of D1

If your team is struggling in this era, it just means you have a disorganized or incompetent staff and athletic department
This era has been fantastic at showing the warts that programs have been able to hide from view.
Adapt or die

Never has the grass been greener esp. among 18 and 19 year olds ... 95% of whom will never play a single down in the NFL.

It can be good for the ones that can find a new home, and terrible for ones who can’t

Break it down to just FBS.
I can understand FCS and DivII, none of those players want to be at that level, so I could see the majority putting their name in the hat every single year for a hope, a distant hope, to move up.

Cool, so pay how many people to monitor somewhere between 1-1.5k players per conference.
Because that's realistic.

I hope 4/5 of them wind up washing cars. Or selling Nissans. Or whatever.
