Could you support your team if a convicted child molester played on it?

I was looking at the baseball rankings and saw Oregon State ranked #1 and remembered that they have a prominent player who molested an 11 year-old girl.
Personally, I can't imagine supporting a player who did that or a coach who would have him on his team, or a university that would let a creature like that represent them. I never imagined that a person who committed that crime could ever be allowed to play collegiate athletics until I read about him for the first time last summer.

She was 6 at the time.

Honestly the only reason I think he is still on the team is that the players and coaches believe he didn't do it. I would quit the team before I had to be around someone I believe diddled a kid. The article below provides some background.
It seems the originator of the complaint was his brother's ex-wife and Heimlich denied it and still denies it to this day. His parents claim he received bad legal advice and was pressured into pleading based on the fear of conviction and subsequent punishment.
Not saying the guy is innocent, but child sex cases have by far the highest rates of wrongful conviction and erroneous pleas.

Exactly, I firmly believe the staff at OSU knows all of the facts.

he was advised to plead guilty because there was overwhelming evidence against him. The fact that he pled guilty and denies it is irrelevant.
I'm honestly surprised he's playing again this year or that Oregon State let him on the team in the first place.

No but I can't think of another example than this one so I don't know how relevant it really is.
Better question would be if you could support your team with a violent domestic abuser and I think we've seen in sports that many are okay with that.

He pleaded Guilty, would you plead guilty to a child molestation charge if you didn’t do it? I don’t care if they were trying to throw life at me, they would never get me to plead guilty to that. I don’t care that his mother said she was with him the whole time, I’m sure she went to sleep at some point. If he didn’t do it and decided to plead Guilty then his family did him a great disservice, and you have to live with the outcome.

This also speaks volumes about how much of a niche sport college baseball is. The football and basketball equivalent of this guy would be Damien Harris or Grayson Allen. Can you imagine the coverage and scrutiny if it were one of those two?

No, and Tennessee fans have shown they will not support a coach that saw something and did nothing ie Schiano.

What about Brian Banks?

There was a lot of coverage on this kid last year when all of it came out. So much that he didn't play in the CWS.

That is great that you wouldn't do that but using that logic to determine whether someone did something or not is ignorant. People everyday plead Guilty to things they didn't do.
Not saying I believe he did or didn't do it.

Then why did your school let Daniel Hood play? Did you stop rooting for them then?

And like I said if they plead Guilty and are innocent they are still agreeing to live the rest of there lives as if they are Guilty. That’s just the way it is.
