It doesn't have to be the intention. It's automatically what happens when you hijack the occasion used specifically to honor the military for something else. There are a million ways to protest without hijacking an event used to show respect to soldiers.
It's the national anthem not the salute the troops Military Anthem

Yet another uneducated fool.

The playing of the anthem before sporting events was started toward the end of World War I as a way to show reverence and respect to the soldiers that had given their lives and were currently fighting and has been used in that sentiment ever since. That's why you are asked to remove your hat. It's not some pompous handjob to the flag. It's paying respects to the dead.

It is a great failure of our older generations in the respect that there are so many like you that live in this nation and are ignorant of these things.

Well when you put it like that I can certainly understand why you feel it's more important than civil rights or free speech.

Yes, I think the people that literally fought and died to protect this country are worth honoring far more than the entitled fricks currently in it. Especially those that rob pregnant women.

Never really a good thing. You’re nothing but a number to the people that run the country and feeling an allegiance to it just being a blind idiot. Nationalism and patriotism is just political hype and halftime speeches.

Greatest by what metric?

Just my personal opinion, it really depends on your value spectrum and how you define "greatness".

1) Its the world's longest standing democracy and has been tested many times over the centuries

2) Worlds largest GDP and 5th highest GDP per capita, along with top 5/top 10 economic freedom indexes, depending on your metric, driven a shockingly diverse range of sectors from commodities to the highest value add technology

3) Most importantly, 1) and 2) were able to be achieved with an extremely heterogenous society. This cannot be overstated. Brief studies of history, or even present day show how hard this is.

4) An extreme plethora of natural resources, massive farmland, and close too 100k miles of warm water coastline touching two oceans. The warm water coastline issue can't be overstated either, see: Russia

5) Only two neighboring countries on our land borders, both of which we have solid relations with and are economically dependent on us

6) Related to 2), and really the cause of 2), is the foundation of entrepreneurship that is built on some of the world's most clear and fair bankruptcy laws in the world.

7) By far the world's deepest financial markets, and its not even close

We kind of hit the jackpot geographically, then got extremely luckily economically with WW1 and our bankruptcy laws that built the era of entrepreneurship. There are a lot of things wrong with the US, specifically with education, which has driven most of the racial disparity and inequality were talking about today. But no country has a combination of economic strength, depth, and dynamism, combined with a long tested democracy (tested key word), geographic jackpot, unmatched financial markets, all within a heterogenous society (I really can't underscore how hard this is) like the US.

Sidenote, I give not one frick that some kids kneeled/protested or that message board people are rustled. I would care if either was not allowed to happen. The foundation of the US is that both sides of the argument are allowed to tell the other side to go frick themselves.

This makes no fricking sense at all. What a dumbass thing to say. Where do you live? Thank patriots. I never walk into anything blind. My allegiance to America is the allegiance to the Constitution and adhering to it. It's the best legal document ever written, and gives every man the rights he deserves. That's the heart of soul of America and what it means to be an American.

Considering the pro kneeling crowd has been running around for years canceling people and calling them racist for choosing not to kneel, I'd say you have a very poor leg to stand on here

Your post is right on target. I would just add though that freedom of speech is being greatly
tested, not by Constitutional restraint but social
media and national news wolf pack mentality, where
if words are misconstrued or don't fit the
demanded narrative, a person can be shamed and life ruined. It's an uneasy path where radical
thought is driven underground---and takes on dangerous forms.
Kneeling is an open expression and while I may not
agree, it doesn't bother me as an old military vet.

Sounds about North Korean for you.

Those same grunts you praise fought and died for their right to do whatever they want.
