Relax, MeltVernon. I know LSU triggers your pussy arse but its friday... maybe you can sit down on the couch this weekend and reflect on all of the womens sports titles UT has won.

Washington surprises me most on this list

This graph is a flawed way of looking at it. Washington is getting a boost because it played in two giant games where viewership had way more to do with the game itself than it did the teams playing in it.

2023 National Title Game- 25 million viewers
2023 Semifinal Game- 19 million viewers

Those two games alone make up almost a quarter of their total viewership over the 8 or so seasons this graph shows.

Both of these games were on the lower end of typical viewership that these games typically garner. Washington playing in them does not make them a major brand. It just means they played in those games.

To correctly determine tv viewership demand, you need to look at regular season games only so you get an apples to apples conparison.

I'll reflect on how we beat the supposed champs LSU baseball 2 out of 3 this year.

You can get a trophy at a pre-schooler's soccer banquet. What's the big deal.

Congrats on figuring out how to lose to Texas and still worm out a championship.

You hired an Aggie coach and now celebrate regular season victories.

Wow... print the cups

Here comes the part where the longhorns start talking about reallocation of media revenue and the potential to start their own TV network.

So going back to 2013 (That’s how far the website SportsMediaWatch goes), here are how the programs rank in total viewership…

*2013-2024 Regular Season Games
*Counting all and only games that got 2 million viewers or more

TOTAL VIEWERSHIP:

1. Alabama- 703,966,000
2. Ohio State- 623,492,000
3. Michigan- 515,347,000
4. Georgia- 460,506,000
5. Notre Dame- 459,459,000
6. LSU- 414,700,000
7. Auburn- 370,471,000
8. Oklahoma- 329,612,000
9. Florida- 322,398,000
10. Texas- 310,107,000
11. Penn State- 304,343,000
12. Texas A&M- 303,495,00
13. Tennessee- 294,306,000
14. Florida State- 262,227,000
15. Clemson- 258,029,000
16. Michigan St- 233,589,000
17. Ole Miss- 209,352,000
18. USC- 204,779,000

These Top 18 account for 60.3% of all regular season viewership.

AVERAGE PER GAME VIEWERSHIP:
*minimum 30 games total

1. Alabama- 6,342,000
2. Ohio State- 6,235,000
3. Michigan- 5,602,000
4. Georgia- 5,174,000
5. Auburn- 4,811,000
6. LSU- 4,767,000
7. Florida St- 4,683,000
8. Penn St- 4,542,000
9. Tennessee- 4,528,000
10. Texas A&M- 4,398,000
11. Florida- 4,186,000
12. Notre Dame- 4,177,000
13. Clemson- 4,162,000
14. Texas- 4,135,000
15. Michigan St- 4,098,000
16. Wisconsin- 4,014,000
17. Nebraska- 3,998,000
18. Miami- 3,927,000

Worth noting….

Oregon ranks #21 in both total and average viewership.

Washington ranks #34 in total viewership and #27 in average viewership.

Neither of those schools are big tv draws, albeit they are a bit hindered by playing on the West Coast.

Got it, so TX would rather beat LSU than win a championship trophy.

Essentially we can say that LSU is TX's national championship.

Seems weird for a premier National program to feel that way versus a trash heap school but I'll take your word for it.

ACC pretty weak. Big 12 non existent. Traditional Big 10 weak also.

Clemson has more national titles than you over the last 75 years. More wins than you the last 30 years, and more CFB playoff appearances. They’re an overall better football program and it’s not even close.

A&M and Bama have the 2 ugliest and stupidest Helmets in College Football history
A&M mustve been jealous Bama is slightly lamer so the beat them twice while they had Saban

Takes a special kind of sports fan to value winning a weekend series more so than winning a National Championship. But when that's all you have...

Is that graphic saying OU had more viewers than Texas?

MtVernon, how is the SEC so good if A&M and Texas go there and immediately become good teams?

aTm had been recruiting at an SEC level and had a jolt of lightning that is JFF paired with Mike Evans and an innovative offensive coach. Once the two players left, how have they done? I’ll give you a hint, since 2012 they haven’t lost fewer than 4 games in real seasons.

UT beefed up their recruiting in the trenches the 2 years prior to joining the SEC and was in the last 4 team playoff. They were also gifted one of the easiest conference schedules available last year and got stomped by UGA twice. Let’s see how they do this year

My guess is Texas and OU paid the price for the awful B12 media deal and being the defacto early Fox game.

The SEC night game numbers, and generally big night games overall regardless of network, dwarf those of other time slots. Makes you wonder what those numbers would have looked like Texas and OU actually had real marquee matchups and could be flexible in their airtimes…. Oh, never mind, we saw what that meant last season with record high SEC viewership numbers…

Big brands with history still rule CFB viewership. This is why people keep pushing the top “x” number of teams should break away and why super-conferences exist now…

Oilfield
But TWO teams with instant success doesnt realy happen often from your what you just explained
Especialy against SEC defenses
Maybe the SEC board let them win so the programs wont hit rock bottom and they wont loose money off those texas teams.
But OU beats Bama in first year with six losses
Something Tenneessee and LSU have been trying to do for years
Its puzzling
