Some cocksucker at the New York Times sure had some time on his hands.

Cut 72 in half and you’re closer to a “super league”.

Is this gay or is it just me

Fat chance getting many of the schools to agree to that. Texas left the Big 12 for a reason. We certainly wouldn't regress back to a SWC schedule, even allowing for the "non-divisional" games.
Whoever put this together has too much time on their hands.

Anyone else see the irony here?

72 is waaaay too many teams. Hell, I think 32 might be more than enough.

I like the South region. Just remove Memphis’s useless arse

Yup.
32 is the real number. The top 20 big dogs are not going to want to share revenue.
Half of the divisions above are shitty. The balance of quality is simply not there to do this geographically and include everyone.
I do like the Texas division though. Just Tu and A&M and that is it.

Soccer fans in England did an amazing job shutting this shite down

No kidding.
If all sports were equal in revenue then this would probably work, but because football drives way more revenue than anything else you have to build these conference concepts around that sport first.

UTjr and UL? Where do we sign up?

Some of those divisions are weak as hell

I'm in 100% with that division.

You could probably do anywhere from 24-32…but I’ve said it before, there should be relegation and promotion just like in European soccer. That way you give everyone a chance. There should be 3 leagues with promotion/relegation.

So conferences are just going to, what? Dissolve? This seems like not even a pie-in-the-sky idea, but more like pie-in-the-most-distant-reaches-of-the-solar-system. This will never happen.

I think it is between 40 and 50. B1G and SEC plus a few others.
You can't get enough votes to dissolve the SEC and B1G if half of the conferences are killing themselves.

I'm a State grad and Penn State grad--I like the South region for State and really like the Mideast region for Penn State.

32-48 teams maybe and relegate the bottom 25% each year and promote the next up into those spots. It will prevent the bottom feeders from leaching off the top programs and add new blood to the schedule each year.
