Colin Cowherd hit the nail on the head today...

He said there is a dearth of really good college football games, and that is the issue with CFB. He mentioned there are 50 games on Labor Day weekend and only two are even interesting, LSU-FSU and TCU-Colorado (probably due to Coach Prime).
He thinks now that the conferences are growing, there will be some great games every weekend, unlike Bama - Cupcake U, etc. Better games, and more of them, plus he said the traditional matchups will still be retained.
I agree wholeheartedly with his assessment...

I've often felt sorry for the Bama fans as they only had 1, 2 or 3 really decent games per year other than the SEC championship or playoffs. Lately they've beefed up the schedule, and now UGA fans have the dismal schedule this year.
More conference games = better matchups for the fans...

I think everyone needs one cupcake early since there is no preseason in college football, could even have a preseason week, like last week of August where everyone plays a cupcake, keeps those economies afloat, and then no cupcakes the rest of the way, or each get one in late october/early november for a chance to rest and fine tune.

I agree, there will still be some crap games, warmups etc. But there will be far more good to great games...

Before 2007, sure I can admit that. But here is our out of conference since 2007:
2007 - FSU
2008 - Clemson
2009 - VT
2010 - Penn State
2011 - Penn State
2012 - Michigan
2013 - VT, Colorado St
2014 - West Virginia
2015 - Wisconsin
2016 - USC
2017 - FSU, Fresno St, Colorado St
2018 - Lousiville
2019 - Duke (ok i will give you that one)
2020 - was going to be USC but COVID came around
2021 - Miami
2022 - Texas

Only solution... MOAR!! These fictional "better games" can't exist unless we go to super conferences?
If there are 80 teams per conference, retaining rivalries will just magically improve? Not sure what one has to do with the other... since the rivalries already exist.

Georgia has 8 games scheduled against SEC opponents (9 against P5).
And we are told that our schedule is shite.
Cowherd couldn't put together a well thought out idea if his life depended upon it.
He is a shite flinging monkey. He knows it. But that's the best that his brain can aspire to.

Probably? Colorado won 1 game last year. Why would anyone be interested if the coach was John Smith from Boulder, CO community college?

In 2011 lsu opened with Oregon and to a man, the team and the staff say that opening with a power team sharpened the whole squad.
That was also before week zero games which just frick everything up.

Bama (namely Bama fans) have a lot that can be shite on, but scheduling difficulty and playing marquee opponents is not one of them.

Now this is someone who has no idea what they are talking about or, more likely, doesn't admit the truth about Bama.

They are absolutely doing better.
But they have in no way or fashion been pioneering the best P5 OOC matchups.

that's a minor annoyance but it's number like 50 on the list of things wrong with CFB.
You could have top-30 matchups with all those teams playing against one another all on opening weekend and it still wouldn't "fix" CFB. It would just make openign weekend more entertaining.

Pretty much the only SEC team that played a P5 opponent week 1 every year since Saban arrived.

Great snap back.
There is nothing like a talking point/fact which must be qualified with "pretty much".
