That is not really true... they were always representative and they had some excellent baseball teams and right before Campbell came on the scene they had a couple of elite basketball teams. In years past they have had nationally ranked track teams and their women's basketball team was elite once upon a time. And their football program has been solid for a long time.
They had really good athletics considering they are located where they are...
But the reality is that the only way they could ever actually be an elite athletic program is to do what they are doing now.
