So basically any time a player at a school like Coastal Carolina shows promise, hell be leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table if he doesnt enter portal

The reality of it all is that Coastal Carolina, Southern Misses, etc. can't compete w/ big programs in football. Other sports sure, since you only need one or two key contributors in basketball or a couple of pitchers in baseball to be competitive.
But in Football, you need a minimum of 40 really good players scattered over 22 positions to have a chance and there just aren't that many to go around beyond the power conferences.

Pretty much, it will totally change college football and what draws us to it year after year. How much will it become another pro league? Not sure yet, but just look how many starters at QB have already jumped in the portal day one.
At least in the pro's you can sign for a multi year contract and hold onto the player for a few years.
You will see more collectives/ "schools" putting emphasis on the portal with their money under current system.

True
We have been here a century ago and it did not work then. Had a very workable solution about 30 years ago that benefitted academic institution and student athlete (just not lawyers, accountants, ticket resellers, street agents, high level agents, Klingons (Family & friends), fat little girlfriends, and the like.
Whole new generation of AD and presidents who are all about maxing their dollars. It will not end well.

And somehow college basketball recruiting is even worse.
At this point everyone just languidly accepts it as status quo, and yet we all know it's the dirtiest thing in collegiate athletics.

HS recruits now asking $5k (and more) just to visit a school wasn't quite the intention
Welcome to 1985. That’s been going on for decades. It’s more pervasive now but NIL didn’t cause this. Players at top 25 programs have always been paid. Juniors getting a bag to stay for another year. Guy gets his bag to take an unofficial visit etc.

With all of this being said about free agency and the schools with the most money having the biggest advantages, Texas A&M can still only manage consistent 7-5 8-4 seasons with the highest payroll in the country. Just wanted to make everyone smile on a Monday.

I feel like Saban caught a lot of flack on this board for arguing against NIL because idiots on here said it would lead to more parity and he was scared of that.
The deal with Saban is he’ll speak up about what he thinks is right or whatever if there’s a rule change. Then when he realizes it’s going to happen, he goes out and gets the very best people at it and kicks everyone’s arse. It’s infuriating.

How many will lose that opportunity when coastal Carolina decides to drop out of D1 entirely because they can't compete?
Are we talking about the same coastal Carolina that won a baseball natty in 2016?

Maybe that’s his point…..it isn’t 2016 anymore
But it sounds like they will try and still do something for the smaller sports
As said above, football is a different animal with the number and costs needed to try and compete

NIL is not what I expected. I thought it would just be businesses offering to put a player on a poster to advertise or something. Not Millions into a large pool of money to give out. I was never for it either.
To me a clear way to change this is an oversight group who makes sure goods and services are exchanged for a sensible cost around market value. If you want player compensation from a pool of money, do it based on TV revenue by game for any given sport. That way womens volleyball players are paid the same as football players either by % or by some other formula that might as well just be a %.

Seeing an Alabama fan posting that anything should be proven on the field before it's rewarded is high comedy. Extra hilarity for actually making on the field bolded.

Everybody says this, but the reality is your roster is bought and paid for just like all major programs. And, business has never been better for the “haves”.

He was scared of losing dominance in the paying players world, not overall parity.

People say it because it will be true.
It has and will totally change football as we have known it.
Don't know why that is hard concept to understand since it already has done so.
Made that part in the same post when I said you still have to play the game.
