Yep I think the late 80s was the last early season #1 v #2 matchup before that 06 game.

not really sure why Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Florida are ranked ahead of Tennessee. All Heupel has done is win more consistently and at a higher rate than all 3 of those programs coaches. However, as everyone on this forum knows, these rankings mean nothing. SEC has so many interesting storylines this year, cant wait

Tennessee fans obsession with UF the last few weeks has been quite impressive.

I was at that game. Technically it wouldn’t count for the statistic as it was the second game of the season. Each team had the gimme win type game slated the week before.

A lot of people do seem to remember it as opening week, even though it was not.

Wild thing is it was also Ohio State and Texas and the buckeyes whooped that arse.

You beat a true freshman QB in his 2nd game ever. Congratulations.

I mean its not really obsession but yall have 1 winning season in the last 4 years. You lost 5 games last year. Your coach is 1-2 against Heuepl. You also have the hardest schedule in the country and your QB has been injured for most of the offseason. Its fair to wonder why coaches are ranking Florida over Tennessee? Anyway its just offseason complaints

Ahh yes, the NFL is know for great quarterback evaluations!

They definitely knew what they were doing drafting Jamarcus Russel 1rst overall in 2007 and letting Tom Brady fall to pick 199 in 2000!

OM is 3rd in the SEC in wins the last 5 seasons. Heupel has not won more consistently than Lane Kiffin.

Thats cause Kiffin has been at Ole Miss longer than Heupel's been at Tennessee.

Kiffin (.710) < Heupel (.712)
Heupel has won at a higher rate, he has beaten overall better teams, has been to the playoffs, and has higher-ranked finishes than Kiffin

I never compared the two, you made that connection on your own.

Reading comprehension shouldn't be that hard, even for an LSU grad.

You say all of that without discussing any of Tennessee’s current concerns with their roster.

Specifically at WR, OL, and at QB.

You might wanna look there.

Edit: and the schedule thing is just lazy takes. Ranking one team ahead of another in a power ranking world because of schedule is just flat out stupid.

Giving him too much credit. Probably not even community college...
