Stoops beat a Florida team that O could not.

You think a guy deserves COY when he has a team of 5* talent at every position
Yes. He built that.
quote:
How does that make him a great coach?
because he built that
quote:
That's like saying a coach of an NFL team is the best ever because he only plays high school teams and wins every week.
No it isn't. You keep forgetting, he built it, and maintaining excellence is almost as difficult as building it.
quote:
Saban could sit on the sideline, under an tiki hut, sipping banana daiquiris thru the entire game, and the result would be the same
Honest to goodness, not a chance in hell. There are plenty of folks that could take that same team and lose. His leadership philosophy and perhaps more importantly his actual implementation of that philosophy is just better than everyone elses.
quote:
That being said, LSU is still at a huge disadvantage, talent-wise.
Huge disadvantage? Nope. If LSU wins, advantage O for COY. Between the TOPS program and LSU's lack of legit in state recruiting competition, LSU should have no issues on the talent front, and I'd argue that they actually don't right now.

So this guy could be on the Alabama sideline and beat Gus. I might actually agree with you on that one.

If an Alabama player goes down, another 5* replaces him. LSU can't say that.
Bum Philips said this back in the day:
"Bryant can take his'n and beat your'n, and then he can turn around and take your'n and beat his'n." ~ On Bear Bryant
Saban wins, overwhelmingly, due to his talent, not his coaching. He may be the best recruiter of all time, but I've never been overly impressed with his coaching.
A great coach wins with great talent AND inferior talent.

A great coach doesn't have to beat you with inferior talent. He recruits players that fit his vision, coaches them up, and then wins championships with them, thus making it even easier to recruit great players, allowing yourself more energy to coach them up, and win more championships.
I am getting uncomfortable with the amount of praise you are making me throw his way to help you see this. I hate Alabama, but I would wear Nick Saban footed PJ's if they made them.

Hasn't Stoops been at Kentucky six or seven years?
I think this is his 5th.

Stoops as of now. If Coach O pulls it out sat night, it’s all his.
Seems fair. I'd give it to Stoops either way if he can beat Georgia.

Two of your fellow Auburn fans have just pointed out that you're a dumbass. Hardly a "gump" thing, now is it?
Me? I just think you're some dumb 20 year old kid.

See this is where you are confusing recruiting with coaching. I know absolutely nothing about strategy or tactics, but if get to pick a group of SEALs from Team 6, I'm pretty confident they would conquer any NG unit. No one would call me the greatest military commander alive.
Saban has elite talent at every position. He is expected to win every game because his talent level is much greater. COY is not the guy expected to win every game. He's the guy who does more with less. Take a look at previous COY winners for an example. McElwain, Pinkel, and Sumlin won it. None of them ever won the conference title.

For some reason you separate recruiting and the coaching of those recruits.
And you are saying that TCOTY is the coach who takes inferior players and win a few games.
If you have the COTY you have someone who can do it all. I realize you hate everything Bama. That is fine with me, but the best coach of all time coaches at The University Of Alabama.

For some reason? I know this is a little hard for the Crimson-colored glass wearers to understand, but recruiting and coaching IS two different things.
Care to explain why Saban didn't win COY in the years he won a natty? Why was Kirby COY last year and not Saban? Why did McElwain win it in 2015 and not Saban?

Odom could try to shine his shoes. But he'd F that up too.

As of today who is the SEC coach of the year?
Coach O. Everyone had LSU at 5-7 and missing a bowl.
Kentucky has had a good year, but there isn't a defining win. If they beat UGA this weekend, then I would put Stoops over Coach O.
