But did Howland do anything to warrant being fired?

Discount his first two seasons because he came into a dumpster fire. The last five years our record was 104-65 and 46-44 in the SEC. Very solid. I agree that with the talent we had, he could have won more. He was also the victim of bad luck as I think the 2020 team could have made some noise in the postseason had it not got cancelled.

Going in a new direction is fine but Coach Howland did not do anything so egregious to warrant being fired.

I interacted some with their fanbase leading up to and after our game with them in 2019.

Smart fanbase, they really know their basketball

Good hire and good fit as MSU is the NMSU of the SEC

Does that make yall the UTEP version of the SEC? He gets to leave New Mexico. Even Mississippi is an upgrade from New Mexico.

Arguably Miss St is the worst job in SEC.

I was watching the game yesterday thinking I hope we aren’t getting this guy. I hope this is a better hire than what my gut tells me it will be.

MSU will have a great Defense going forward! They will play hard too. Great hire.

I mean Howland is absolutely the nicest guy out there, but what good would it do to keep him on? He's tired and needs to be around his kids and grandkids at his beach house in Santa Barbara. Plus his 89yo mother just broke her hip the other day.

He looks like the New Mexico State mascot. Howland didn’t deserve to be fired, maybe he can land the New Mexico State job

Jans better win quickly. Howlands last five years were not awful. Just could not win big games. One NCAA ( would have been two if not for cOVID cancelation) and three NITs including a run to the title game.

Roster is talented. Hump about to get $50 million upgrade. This is not a rebuild. Got to win next year.

One tourney win since 2017 seems very unexciting. Polar opposite of hiring Howland after his final 4. We shall see how this one goes. If this crashes and burns, Cohen should be right out the door with him.

It’s New Mexico State.

He has an 80% winning record there and averaged 28 wins a season minus the shortened covid year where they only played 20 games.

Mid majors always get crappy seeds and have to play a high seed so don’t look into tourney wins so much

Do you ever have anything positive to say? First, you wanted Howland fired (and he has been) and now with this apparent hire, you are already firing Cohen after Jans is fired for crashing and burning? Just exactly who did you want be the new HC?

This. I think it’s an exciting hire tbh

fricking shite man WHAT THE frick is Ray Tanner doing. We could've had this guy. Great mid major coaches are quickly getting hired away.

You are chasing coaches with upcoming show cause issues. Congrats I guess.

On the flip side the WAC is a horrid conference and NMSU is historically a good program.
