Because eff the Bammers

It's a tribute to both the insanely high standard that Saban set at Alabama, and the desperate hoping by fans of other schools that Bama will crater now that he's gone. Seasons that would be cause for rejoicing at basically every other program in the conference are wishcasted as failures by rivals who are secretly terrified that DeBoer might not fall flat on his face after all.

It's almost exclusively from two fanbases, who in those two years:

• Are 26–24 themselves combined;
• have finished outside of the Top 25 both times;
• have two bowl appearances and one bowl win between them (out of four); and
• are 0–4 against Kalen DeBoer, having been outscored 56–117.

Both of these fanbases are also 8–29 (0.216) against Alabama over the past 18 years combined, and have fired 8 head coaches in that time, to whom they owed or still owe tens-of-millions of dollars.

What conclusions might you draw from this information?

Following Saban, he was going to be judged to an impossible standard. I don't think he's a particularly great coach to be ranked top 5 nationally or whatever but apparently Michigan and Penn State thought enough of his job performance in Tuscaloosa for there to be smoke and possible head coach candidate feelers - regardless of the true reasons, it got him a contract extension

Given that Ryan Grubb sucks when it comes to running the football, KD runs an effective offense generally, not my cup of tea but it has won games and that's what matters nowadays ultimately

Maybe, but he has some disadvantages too. Everyone can do the NIL stuff now.

Bama will never drop completely off. They are ALWAYS competitive. Been watching college football for a long time and they always find a way.

We were 5-2 or so that year before 4 or 5 starters got suspended for getting too many textbooks.

And what were you the year Saban retired? He left the cupboard full in comparison to what he took over.

I can’t believe posters trying to devalue what Saban took over was worse, what he accomplished, and what he left for DeBoer just to try and support DeBoer being an equally good coach.

In my book DeBoer should have a better record at this point compared to Saban. He had/has way more advantages as well.

Its not to say DeBoer can’t do better going forward, I an only responding to the OP who compared their records and saying DeBoer is just as good thru same amount of games. No he is not in that period of comparison.
