A lot of the players Saban left transferred after he retired.
He also left a mess for DeBoer with the LANK/STANK stuff with Milroe and his crew.

Saban left a much better program and player pipeline than what he inherited when he took over. He left a lasting legacy that can help recruit in its own.

I get what you're saying, but in 2023 alone we struggled with 7–6 USF, 7–6 Texas A&M, 4–8 Arkansas, and 6–7 Auburn (remember The Gravedigger?).
And this was a year before the NCAA authorized unlimited transfers in the portal.
Two years prior we lost to 8–4 Texas A&M and struggle-fricked around again with 6–7 Florida, 6–7 LSU, and 6–7 Auburn (remember 4OTs?).
Saban was the GOAT, but when he retired, Joyless Murderball had been gone for a long time.

Inexplicably, Bama can’t run the ball. This is a first for them. If they don’t figure that out soon, they’ll struggle again. But they're still very good even in their struggling seasons.

Saban's DL recruiting had been suffering for years and he also misevaluated a lot of OL and RB recruits he wound up picking. Especially during the Covid year when there were basically no football camps on campus.

Brent Venables took over an OU program that was very good. In the five seasons before he arrived OU had gone:
12-2

9-2
11-2
They had a combined record of 56-10.
Venables went 6-7 his first season and a combined 16-10 over his first two seasons. Venables had as many losses in his first two seasons as OU had in the previous five seasons.
Based on your comments you have to be very disappointed and concerned about OU football.

Thats fair. But I think the program and players were fine and Saban just got tired of putting in the extra hours, no different than Bob at OU. I think the players and program were in great shape for DeBoer though. Unlike when Saban took over. Bob had some head scratching losses towards the end too, but left a great title team for Riley. Saban did similar.
Watching games it was just a different feel with DeBoer. Hard to say one thing but it just didn't have the pop I expected.

Are you brain dead? Way to overreact lol. The team was completely gutted when BV took over. The comparison is what Saban left for DeBoer compared to what Shula left Saban.
Hard to believe how much you are trying to knock down the best coach Bama has ever had. Just to prop up DeBoer. Can’t believe what I’m reading.

DeBoer's offensive approach is reminiscent of the Air Coryell/Sid Gillman offense - he loves doing the verticals but it was complemented by a solid offensive line in pass protection and bellcow back think 1981 San Diego Chargers with Chuck Muncie running
We already saw the so-far best version of KD's offense in 2023 with Dillon Johnson and that Joe Moore winning offensive line, that's his offensive MO

I think most of the DeBoer disrespect that is coming from Alabama fans are from the younger ones who have really only known life under Saban and DeBoer.
Us fans who have made many trips around the sun can remember hard times in various eras.
Heck, I'm old enough to remember hearing my dad after picking up the newspaper yelling to my mom, "We got the Bear". I went running off to tell my brother that we were getting a bear.

He was undeniably aging (72), but I believe much of the responsibility lay with certain assistants toward the end who viewed the position merely as a stepping stone and never fully committed to the role.
Their final recruiting efforts and overall coaching fell short, compounded by COVID-related restrictions on in-person evaluations, the emergence of the transfer portal, and the rise of NIL.

Riley made a secret deal mid-last season to go to Usc. He tanked late season games via play calling to avoid conf title game and potential playoffs. He then tried to slink away in middle of night only to get caught by Bob who made him tell the team. He then took every blue chip offensive player including a Heisman QB with him to Usc. He kept coaching. He left the program dead.
Saban had some failures his last few years but still had talent. Saban retired (not left) and stayed on to help transition. He stayed loyal to program and even met with recruits. He stayed available to DeBoer if needed in any way.
These are not even comparable situations.
And its amazing how you guys are knocking down Saban after all the titles and enjoyment he gave you as fans over his tenure. That is the lowest a fan can go, to disparage a great coach like Nick all to try and prove some point which fails any sniff test.
