Southern Conference isn’t the SEC though. It split to form the SEC and ACC and became a FCS conference eventually
SIAA is the mother conference
SoCon grew from that
Both spawned the SEC and ACC (divided by mountains in the age of trains) and SWC

Unrivaled: Sewanee 1899
The 1899 Sewanee Tigers went 12-0 playing the biggest teams across the South, including a string of 5 games in 6 days. Hear the amazing story of this team that coaches agree will never be equaled.
Link to video that makes me realize how tough players were "back in the day"

Screw Tech. They left the SEC thinking they were better than everyone else and that they would become "the Notre Dame of the South." Let 'em stay in the ACC cellar.

I wonder if ol baws were getting on the radio bitching about the inflated size of the conference?

History repeats
Between 1900 and 1940
Conferences were expanding
Issues were being raised about paying players
Mortality and injury were on the rise
Would not surprise me if a generation from now we were back to smaller regional conferences and no pay college athletics. College is not the pros and when the average fan gets priced out of the equation the audience dwindles. Could be staring the "Perfect Storm" to collapse college sports.

This is what you're 3rd or 4th conference?
