Every projection I see just automatically assumes clemson beats SMU

do they know SMU is ranked? That seems to be clemson’s biggest fear this year

from the link provided:

ACC Champion: Here's where this gets tricky. If SMU wins, it's likely the 3 seed, Clemson is gone, and Alabama slides into the 11 or 12 spot. If Clemson wins, it's probably not one of the top four seeds, but it's in.

In this case, it's an argument for the last slot between an 11-win SMU that played for the conference championship, and Alabama.

SMU has played one ranked team and lost. It was BYU. I don’t think it’s unusual for Clemson to be favored for this game.

Hard to know how good SMU is due to the schedule, Clemson played a much tougher schedule.

Georgia vs Texas - Round 1 - 10/19/24 - Austin
Georgia vs Texas - Round 2 - 12/07/24 - Atlanta
Georgia vs Texas - Round 3 - 01/01/25 - New Orleans

So we are going to play Georgia 3x in Year 1 of the SEC..

and apparently we are going to lose all 3?

So they have uga beating Texas 3 times? That would be wild and difficult.

I don't really care about all this CFP nonsense; I just want SMU to beat Clemson.

SMU has only the 49th ranked SOS, but I think they need to lose by at least 2 scores for there to be any serious consideration of dropping them out. CFP Committee has to do what it reasonably can to a avoid punishing conference championship game participants.

that would suit me just fine, but I know a surprising number of people who still hold the death penalty they got nearly 40 years ago against them

In no universe will they have UGA/Texas rematch in the quarterfinals. Considering they would have played twice already, assuming both teams make the playoffs you would think there'd be every effort imaginable to seed to where they are on opposite sides of the bracket.

One in a long line of reasons a playoff with 12 teams is frickin stupid.

I also have to think that the committee will do their best to avoid rematches or conference matchups.

Clemson/Notre Dame and Alabama/Ohio State are just matchups

Data in the NFL (since it never has happened in college) says if you win the first 2 games, the 3rd is a win 67% of the time.

That adage seems like just a cliché.

Ironically, Clemson should have received the death penalty the following year. They were cited with more infractions involving more cash transactions than was SMU.

But the NCAA realized they were headed down a deep and dark rabbit hole so they stuck them with multiple years of probation and lost scholarships under the guise of, "it really wasn't Danny Ford's fault. Charlie Pell was the culprit."

Ford got them put back on probation in '85 or '86 and was eventually fired. He now operates the largest hemp farm in the state, unless something has changed recently. He's getting on up there in years.

lol..Bama can't get in if Clemson wins. It's a lock for SMU if they lose the ACCCG.

The UGA/Texas 3-peat, with UGA winning all 3.
