Ben Kerchevel (if you are listening to Finebaum right now) did this year tiers.

This is what they are talking about LINK

Elites
The Bear Bryant Tier: First-ballot Hall of Famers

Saban
quote:

Saban, no other coach can claim as many consecutive conference titles and playoff berths in this postseason era

The Steve Spurrier Tier: Blue-blood champions

Jimbo
Kirby
quote:

Why isn't Fisher in the top tier? He is, after all, one of four active coaches to win a national championship. The truth is he probably would have been if the 2017 season had gone differently. Furthermore, it's been a few years since the Seminoles' championship window. The good news is this move to Texas A&M might be a breath of fresh air for Fisher. And if you got rid of the tiers and strictly ranked the coaches 1-130, he'd be hovering around the top five. He's still highly respected and right there on the cusp.

quote:

Smart and Riley are still babies when it comes to their head coaching careers, but they've also cut their teeth as assistants under some of the best in the game. Early returns on them have been overwhelmingly positive.

Proven winners
The Barry Alvarez Tier: Success at the Power Five level

Gus
Mullen

The Howard Schnellenberger Tier: Program builders

None

The LaVell Edwards Tier: Getting it done outside the Power Five

None

The Hal Mumme Tier: All over the place

Mason

Risers and fallers
The Greg Schiano Tier: Coaches moving up

Honorable Mention: Chad Morris

The Jim Mora Tier: Jury's still out

mUSChamp
Stoops
Odom
quote:

Warning: famous last words forthcoming ... I'm cautiously optimistic about Muschamp after South Carolina's 9-4 season. Low-key, he did a darn good job and he might be exorcising some demons from his tenure at Florida. Can Muschamp move up a tier or two this time next year? Otherwise, a lot of the coaches in this tier aren't on the hot seat, per se, but there's a sense of "wait and see."

He basically said in the interview he has no ranking low enough for Ed-O ... was not cool. Finebaum baited him.

Didn't have anything to say about the rest.

Putting anyone on Saban's tier is ludicrous, especially Dabo. Not that what he's done at Clemson isn't impressive, but you can't compare him to the goat.

Saban and Meyer should be by themselves

There is something to be said about a coach that does more with less. That being said doesn't mean he belongs in the same tier as Saban.

Cant argue with results. Three straight playoff appearances is remarkable at Clemson. Both Urbs and Dabo have beaten Saban and are top tier IMO

Sorta sounded that way.

Said no comment on any coaches in their first year in an HC gig. So that would be Pruitt, Luke and the guy at MSU. Moorehead is it?

Did he miss or omit anyone else? I was trying to keep-up and at the same time post to here.

Urban, yes. Clear-cut second place can still be on the same tier. Dabo, absolutely not. He needs at least 10 more years and another NC or two before we can begin that conversation.

Not This....

UCF also beat auburn. That does not put them on their level.

Winning two national titles at Bama or tOSU is less impressive than winning a single national title at Clemson.

Kirby being above Gus makes absolutely no sense at all, unless this is a list based on predictive future results

Any list that has Lincoln Riley that high is garbage.

The dude took over a program that was coming off two consecutive Top 5 finishes. It's not like he had to rebuild anything. He went 12-2, made the Playoff by lost in the Semifinals. If he does that two or three years in a row, sure put him on that 2nd tier..... but seems a bit premature.

The criteria to make the HOF as a HC isn't exactly high.

Coaches must have at least 10 years of head coaching experience, coached 100 games, and had at least a .600 winning percentage.

He's won a NY6 bowl and is 2-1 HTH.

Actually, he has Special Ed in the same tier as your beloved coach
