Just think of the money lost. Bars, eateries, party's etc. I'd really love to see it at night but regardless of the time, Bama is going to beat the shite out of lsu.

There was a thread on the Rant yesterday to the effect that ESPN was working on getting enough sponsors / money to buy out CBS' contract to broadcast the game. One issue was ESPN was having trouble getting sponsors / money to pay for replacement game in the 2:30 slot. The money for the buy out is there; the money for the replacement game not ...so far. The second game would be between 2 lesser teams, forgot which 2.

CBS will have to buy this game from ESPN.

CBS isn't giving up the game. Talk of it being on ESPN is complete nonsense. Question is whether or not CBS can get it in primetime.

But, to be honest, I don't want a CBS prime time game.

ESPN's prime time slot is money. In fact, I wish we didn't play a single game on CBS.

ESPN primetime slot is awesome.

CBS has already had their night game. So they will have to buy it from ESPN

CBS will likely work a deal with ESPN to get it moved to primetime. They did that in 2011 when they used their one night game for Bama/Florida in October.

CBS isn't going to buy shite. All this was laid out before the season and no moaning and groaning from people on an SEC chat board are going to change it. CBS fudged up by not picking this as their night game, but it can't be changed. Technically they are still winners because they have the game.

I still need an explanation as to why CBS didn't choose Florida/LSU last weekend. Only explanation is that it is part of a deal to get Bama/LSU in primetime.

I couldn’t agree more!! CBS is the worst! They take for ever and Gary is as bad as Beth Mowins, if not worse.

Relax, guys. Do note this game will be on CBS. Therefore, everyone will get their way. Game will start at 2:30 Central time, but due to 5+ minutes of timeouts and every damn stoppage in play, this game will turn into a night game probably still finish after the prime time ESPN game.

Correct. I’m surprised how many in this thread don’t know how CBS/ESPN and the SEC tv contracts work. You obviously do, though.

You are also correct in that CBS is trying to work out a deal with ESPN to allow CBS to move this game to night. The LSU-Florida game given to ESPN may have been the first “payment” of the deal.

ESPN has to be compensated for allowing CBS to roll into their primetime timeslots that they have exclusive rights to.

I believe the publicity surrounding the viewership of the LSU/FLORIDA game was the wink to CBS that the deal can be cut since they got some gravy from that game.
