The game will mark Notre Dame's first-ever trip to Athens. Georgia is 2-0 vs. the Fighting Irish.
The game will also mark the 100th appearance by UGA on CBS. Georgia has a 57-41-1 all time record on CBS, which has broadcast more Georgia games than any other network.
Georgia's first-ever televised game was on CBS, the 1960 Orange Bowl Game vs. Missouri, won by the Dawgs, 14-0.
The first game of the double-header @3:30pm will be announced at a later date.

Understandable and predictable but personally I find it a bit shitty on CBS's part to not use it for an SEC/SEC game.

thank god georgia plays them in the season. now we won't have to hear about how ND deserves to be in the post season.

Honestly, I didn't. It was part of the press release. Sorry 'bout that.

However many years of mostly boring LSU Alabama games was enough.

On the bright side, you can have a nice night out that Saturday after an afternoon spent anxiously watching a game that ends something like 22-6.

I wonder who gets the 2:30 CBS slot for that week? Normally UF vs UT gets that slot (normally based solely on historical significance). But if aTm can hold their own against Clemson, and auburn beats Oregon, I could see CBS going with that game instead this year.

fortunately for the SEC, there are a hundred other SEC games to choose from every year. I somewhat agree that I would have preferred the SEC choose another SEC match-up for their primetime game (I was also fine with moving away from the Alabama/LSU game). Not like the UGA/Notre Dame game wouldn't have been on primetime regardless of whether CBS was the network broadcasting the game. The great thing about the primetime game for the conference is we get an extra primetime game we wouldn't have had otherwise. This benefits mainly CBS, not the SEC or UGA, as stated earlier, because this game was always going to be on primetime, whether that be on CBS, or ABC/ESPN/etc.

ND could lose this one 72-0, and the talking heads will still be saying they deserve a second shot. I don't think there's another program more overrated than them each year.

CBS had rights to this game because it falls under the SEC contract after the 2017 game was on NBC.
If CBS hadn’t put it in prime time, it would have been the 3:30 CBS slot. There is zero chance CBS would let it slide to ESPN.

Texas. At least Notre Dame went undefeated the years they've made the playoffs and/or BCS title game. Texas loses 4-5+ games every year and always starts off the season, or shortly thereafter, ranked. I agree they're overrated all the time, but the media seems to crave Texas being "elite" as much as any team.
My favorite was two years ago when they played each other early. Notre Dame starts the season in the top 10, Texas unranked. Texas wins a shootout by 3 and vaults up to #11 while Notre Dame falls to #18. Both teams finished unranked, Texas at 5-7 and Notre Dame at 4-8

Exactly, like I said, this is a decision that benefits CBS. I never disputed that or argued that it wasn't a good business decision for them.
