Frankly, only certain people are in any way surprised by this. Anyone paying even the slightest attention knows Saban is very much a disciplinarian. It would have been far more shocking if he hadn't done this. You don't have to like Saban or Bama to acknowledge that truth.

They brought a ton of bad publicity for Alabama for a pretty damn serious crime but if you think Cam misses one meaningful game over this you are very, very naive.

WTF man? If they attend summer workouts then you'll say Saban is weak on discipline by allowing them on the team and you'll trash him for it. Now that he has suspended them, and they may miss summer workouts you accuse him of not teaching them a lesson?

This is what irritates other fanbases. Bama fans beat up on LSU and Auburn non-stop and always talk about how Saban holds everyone to some bullshite high standard. But it isn't true. If it would stand in the way of winning he does not give a damn as long as he thinks he can absorb whatever public backlash they get. If Malzahn was in the exact same position Bama fans would crucify him. I have no problem with hassling other fanbases but the problem is you guys actually believe the BS your team spews at you.

So you tell me...how did that "work out"?

Not even you are this dense..

The potential 1st-round draft choice is in the clear and the lesser talent is still at risk.

Who could have seen this coming?

All we know for sure is either Cam or Hootie knew the gun was stolen and either Cam or Hootie knows how long whoever had the gun has been in possession of it and who it was bought from.

Actually the wording of the article doesn't say that either one knew the gun was stolen. They just state that they knew who they bought it from and how long they had it.

If Saban really wanted to punish them he'd take back their Dodge Chargers.

Dude, I've posted this several times. It says, word for word, that the Sheriff's office says one of the players knows who stole the gun.

Though, as Juice pointed out, it's not a direct quote from anyone. Just a statement in the article.

So they are suspended from using the facilities?
Are they suspended from the training table?
Have they been evicted from their housing that the scholarship provides?

This "indefinite suspension" is nothing more than lip service.

What would you want Coach Malzhan to do in this same situation?

Seriously, if he had two of his players get arrested and then the DA later drops all charges would you want him to kick those players off the team? Would you want him to suspend them and not allow them to participate in team workouts during the offseason? Would you want him require them to attend drug rehab, gun safety sessions, service community hours, etc?

I have no idea what will happen, but the idea that Saban would just let them back on the team without punishment -- one that many people here were absolutely convinced would happen -- was naive.

As for the "damn serious crime" part...no. Our players who raped a girl committed a "damn serious crime." These players smoked pot, apparently trespassed, and were in the vicinity of a stolen gun. The first two are only "damn serious crimes" for extremely hypocritical Auburn and LSU fans. The last has yet to be proven to be a result of either players' actions. Maybe they did steal it. I have no idea. But let's not pretend the whole country is waiting with bated breath to see these two players see the righteous justice their wickedness has so clearly earned them. It's not. The Rant is a bubble, and, at times, a ludicrously unrealistic one. Don't be the guy who thinks everyone feels the same way as him because he takes care to hang with people who feel the same way as him. It's facile.

Sorry, it got me all worked up. Ole Miss fans had to listen to this crap for the last 2 months. Auburn and Ole Miss players get paid but not at Bama. No, the kids wanna go there to play for Saban and win championships. Everyone gave us shite but so many of these Bama fans actually believed it.

To be fair, there are several Bama fans on here who I think are really good posters. I won't name names.

Personally I said no "meaningful" punishment. And I consider this stuff the standard crap to make sure they don't miss any games.

So it's all about what "fans" on the internet post that bothers you? Not necessarily how Saban runs his program?

Count me as a Bama fan that's never held Saban up as some holier than thou disciplinarian. Truth is, most coaches are about the same. And star players are treated differently everywhere.

Am I the only one who thought the inclusion of a "mental health" expert was weird?

I get the suspension, drug tests, and community service... But a shrink?

Nope. Because I knew it would play out this way. And honestly, I don't think that there would be a big difference at most other programs. Derek Mason probably would boot them but it wouldn't be up to him either at Vanderbilt. Maybe some of the other guys. Also, it depends on if it is a good player or not.

So you're saying that one guy does outpatient activities at an addiction center and the other guy is entered into a 21 day inpatient program because he is the "lesser talent"?...Don't talk to me about dense, you stupid motherfricker.
