Part of what makes the post-season SEC Tournament fun is that there's the incentive of the auto bid. And you obviously can't do that at the beginning of the season.
He's always hated the SEC Tournament, largely because the NCAA Committee refuses to acknowledge what happens in it outside of the autobid since the championship game is the same day as the selection show.
I'd rather play OOC teams to start the season though.

Baseball should just do a regular 16 team bracket with no byes. Super easy and finishes in 4 days.

I like starting the season woth marque ooc games honestly, so I am a fan of how we do it.

It's a great way to start a new season. Would be in favor of starting the SEC tournament a day earlier for a Saturday championship game.

A lot of teams are already playing in tournaments and then all the big OOC matchups.
First week of conference play, knock out the tourney and still award the autobid to the team that wins. Still lots of incentive to win it and lock up a tourney spot.
Play the regular season and then be done the Saturday before selection and teams are still prepared and rested for NCAA tourney.
Not sure I like it, but I would be interested in seeing it at least once.

Don’t think he’s saying to get rid of those. I believe what he’s saying is have the tournament at the start of conference season. Can still have all the marquee OOC home/aways and neutral site games.
Start of January, conference tournament. Then play the league schedule.
Tournament is at 76 teams now. Conference tournaments for major conferences mean absolutely dick. Essentially if you have a winning record you’ll damn near be in now.
