Sorry bud , but when Kelly was hired he tried to get the requirements lowered to help the program be more competitive and was denied . That’s also the main reason urban turned down the Irish ( his dream job ) to go to Florida. He knew then that he would be at a disadvantage when playing the cream of the crop ...

You realize they had manti teo who fabricated a story about a fake girlfriend at a Catholic School and you're telling me that they are a fine institution when it comes to student athletes?!

He's probably correct. Notre Dame's composite recruiting rankings for the previous 5 years are Top 10.
There is a small margin of error in these games. While Clemson is clearly the better team, it doesn't ND is crap. (I am not a ND fan in any way).

I'm telling you that depth is important. Under Richt, we were a top 10 national recruiter (about 5th in the SEC). But injuries would make us average in the SEC.

We played Bama in the SECCG with our 4th string right guard. He was our 9th best lineman going up against Quinnen Williams. We thought he did OK. Much of the year was our 2nd and 3rd string out there. Those are the types of injuries that derailed 2008 and 2013.

Bama was down so many linebackers in 2017, I don't know their depth chart. But they could absorb that type of attrition, too.

A playoff team has to put together a consecutive run of games to win. And you can't do that with 1 deep talent. It is impossible.

I'm telling you that a lot of athletes don't give a shite about ND and would rather go to a SEC school. If ND was so glorious, they would be doing what they can to get in lol

We are talking about 2 different things. Not worth the argument.

What I’m going to find interesting is how the playoff committee is going t handle ND going forward. Are they going to do the right thing and hold them accountable for playing such a shitty schedule or will they keep up the status quo?

I think Kelly was trying to save face, there was a HUGE talent gap at almost every position. Notre Dame is still one of the 7-8 best teams this year though, and Kelly is one of the best in the business, but Clemson (along with Alabama and Georgia) has NFL bodies everywhere on both sides of the ball, which Notre Dame doesn’t

IF...they don't hold them accountable for this (and playing one less game) then the committee obviously isn't the best selection method. ND would need to completely run their schedule and demolish their competition in every single game.

Fk them.

Wondering the same ... to play a ACC schedule and manage to sidestep Clemson every year since 2015 .... by design, I think so . Enough of them to be able to hand select their path to the postseason with the service academy’s and a few ACC cupcakes. Join a conference or risk being passed over ...

Clemson beat ND handily yesterday, but it wasn’t a “men against boys” beatdown. I thought ND represented themselves pretty well. If they hadn’t let the last five minutes of the first half get away from them, they might could have made a game out of it at the end.

I pull for Carolina, so I'll get the Tiger hater label or something.

Clemson has a lot of talent, but top to bottom of the roster it isn't as good as Alabama.

Tell me which of their starters would beat out someone on your team? MAYBE a defensive lineman, and that's about it.

You oculd probably swap a wide receiver or an offensive linemen from Clemson onto Alabama and not see a dropoff. But if Clemson's starters were starting camp competing with Alabama's starters for jobs, I'm not sure how many Tigers would win those battles. Positive that not a single DB or LB would start at Alabama.

can laugh at him (I do) but he is saying the right things as the captain of their ship.

you can call your QB Drew Brees. But he is still a 5’10” stack of bad

They have almost no top tier talent.

Sounds like he is saying he has good players so the loss is on him and his staff....like a good coach does. Takes the blame.

I fully believe we’d beat Notre Dame
