He loved the area and the fan support. It's really not that much of a step down if you look at everything and not just NC history. Baseball is just as big here.

Didn't Woodward fully guarantee a 10 year deal for Jimbo coming off a disappointing season at FSU? I'm guessing if Woodward and the boosters want McDonnell and he wants LSU, money isn't going to matter.

LSU and it's boosters have far too much pride in the baseball program to let money get in the way. And, let's be honest, "silly money" for a baseball coach is peanuts compared to basketball and football. The highest paid head baseball coaches make less than top coordinators in football.

Scott Woodward is known for hiring big names and LSU is a top job. Why would it be so unrealistic for O'Sullivan to be a candidate?

LSU won a bidding war with Texas to keep Mainieri in 2016
LSU may not hire Sully, but FOH if you think LSU is too poor spend money on the baseball program or really anything in the AD. They're paying Ed Orgeron like $8M/year and just hired a coach for women's basketball for $2.5/year They just paid Bo Pelini $4M to go away after one season. This "they're poor" schtick is really played out at this point. Not many ADs in the conference have any problem with money. Saying LSU baseball can't afford to get into a bidding war for a baseball coach is like saying Kentucky can't afford it in basketball.This post was edited on 5/28/21 at 12:31 pm

We all have SEC money, it's a matter of how much you value the baseball program.
Most schools think baseball is "nice to have", while LSU cares more than some MLB teams
