Love this hire. For the first time since we fired Gottfried, we went out and hired a damn good basketball coach instead of a splash hire we overpay for that wins the press conference. He's young, hard working, and I love that he has significant high school experience. Now go hire Bucky as an assistant, recruit this state hard, and coach them up for once.

Bama should rename Coleman Coliseum rename “The Hall of Oats”.

Well worth that $49MILLION/7 YR guaranteed contract.

Still doesn't change anything.

Well his offense made Saban's defenses look silly more times than the other way around. Including Nick Marshall setting the all time passing record against any Bama defense. So there's that.
That explains Gus' winning record against Saban.
Oh, wait...

Honestly I think it's a fine hire
It just may take some time to get off the ground and I'm not sure how that'll fit with Alabama's impatience
Byrne's gonna move up the construction start on Coleman, so Alabama's gonna have to play its home games, away(probably B'ham). This'll give Oats a year to get in and settled before folks start to actually critique the team's success. It'll also provide a great recruiting tool for the future. Alabama's basketball program is going to get a mulligan regardless of who the coach is because of the fact that they'll have no home court advantage (we saw that with the baseball program).
All the bullshite positive and negative conjecture at this point is exactly that...bullshite....And anybody trying to tell folks how things are gonna work out with ANY future coach is as full of shite as a Christmas goose.

He is in the first tier of good mid-major coaches imo. Might not work out but I think it is a good hire on paper.

Really like this hire for Bama.
I think your last two coaching hires in basketball have been prisoner of the moment hires-- hire the name, the hot name, and that success would follow. Less attention was paid to the basketball side of things.
This is a very sound *basketball* based hire. If Arkansas is as sound in its approach to hiring a new coach, I'll be a happy Hog fan.

Not frustrated, just realistic to the unpredictable nature of mid major hires

Okay
I know we have had some good conversations and I respect your opinion.
It seemed like the AJ Train had run out of steam so any new coach would create some excitement. But to me if I was a Bama alum/fan , I would be concerned that here we go again starting all over especially if the returning players transfer out.
However hopefully for the Tide Nation this will prove to be a good long term hire.

Looks like a solid hire. Especially considering the uncertainty of who the shoe company scandal my include.

Thank you! I'd have to up my BP medication every time I watched the goat roping that was Bama inbounds.
No kidding. Watching Bama inbound made me pucker up like watching Bama kick field goals.

Could be rough next year if all leave but Bama HAD to make a move. Wallowing in mediocrity is no fun
