He can be thought of as both an upcoming star and a struggling quarterback. We have evidence of him playing poorly last year, along with glimpses of All-American type quarterback play. Given that we also have media reports and coaches' word that he has improved, his performance this year is truly unknown. Until we "open the box" and we find him either dead or alive.

Let's get something straight... the only reports that Harris is vastly improved are coming out of LSU. Not saying he won't be better, just stating a fact.

You know that analogy is wasted here, right?

Are you trying to say that you don't want to see him play because you're afraid he's going to suck? Just go ahead and open the box.

Especially since it's not even that great of an analogy. Schrödinger didn't even like it.

So we won't know what type of QB he is until after he plays?

Science, bitch.

Not entirely ...

quote:

Schrödinger's cat is a famous illustration of the principle in quantum theory of superposition, proposed by Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. Schrödinger's cat serves to demonstrate the apparent conflict between what quantum theory tells us is true about the nature and behavior of matter on the microscopic level and what we observe to be true about the nature and behavior of matter on the macroscopic level -- everything visible to the unaided human eye.

Here's Schrödinger's thought experiment: We place a living cat into a steel chamber, along with a device containing a vial of hydrocyanic acid. There is, in the chamber, a very small amount of hydrocyanic acid, a radioactive substance. If even a single atom of the substance decays during the test period, a relay mechanism will trip a hammer, which will, in turn, break the vial and kill the cat.

The observer cannot know whether or not an atom of the substance has decayed, and consequently, cannot know whether the vial has been broken, the hydrocyanic acid released, and the cat killed. Since we cannot know, according to quantum law, the cat is both dead and alive, in what is called a superposition of states. It is only when we break open the box and learn the condition of the cat that the superposition is lost, and the cat becomes one or the other (dead or alive). This situation is sometimes called quantum indeterminacy or the observer's paradox: the observation or measurement itself affects an outcome, so that the outcome as such does not exist unless the measurement is made. (That is, there is no single outcome unless it is observed.)

We know that superposition actually occurs at the subatomic level, because there are observable effects of interference, in which a single particle is demonstrated to be in multiple locations simultaneously. What that fact implies about the nature of reality on the observable level (cats, for example, as opposed to electrons) is one of the stickiest areas of quantum physics. Schrödinger himself is rumored to have said, later in life, that he wished he had never met that cat.

Actually, LSU's pre-season "outlook" according to media was average to dismal. Then Harris was announced the starter and media started predicting playoffs, even Natty. So media is thinking improved at least.

If that is the case, the media is taking the reports out of LSU.

Lets get something else out there... Three of the top ESPN pundits picked LSU either winning the NC or in the game this week. Where do you think the basis for that confidence level came from? The only LSU factor that would turn or affect anyone's opinion that much is that the QB play was going to be good.

I have followed LSU through the spring and fall and I have no concern over our QB... but I am in the LSU bunch. You will just have to wait and see.

P.S. Don't expect Heisman numbers for Harris tomorrow as most of us know Miles and he will use this as a break in game for BH and several other players. I do expect his numbers to be good but I also expect CLM to lean heavily on his RB's tomorrow.

Also since it would imply that Harris is both very good and very bad, just as the cat is both dead and alive simultaneously. The deciding factor will be when we watch him play and decide, so we hold the future of this LSU team in our hands.
