How are they any more meaningless than before? All but a couple bowls have always been irrelevant.

It's another chance to watch more football and for coaches to earn their $27 million buy out.

Well, move forward then. The 2' ND and 3'rd year players should be frothing to see the field.

How is this any different from the BCS era. It’s exactly the same

Exactly this.
How did the playoffs make bowls irrelevant? Were champs being crowned out of the outback or citrus prior to the BCS era?

I enjoyed the frick out if the fiesta bowl last year And by the ops definition that was a meaningless game

I love bowl games.

The playoffs have ruined everything.

If you’re a competitor, every time you have a chance to suit up it matters.

Everyone is such a pussy now. I don’t want to play football just pay me millions for it

Probably are too many bowls but since we are suppose to be all about the players what’s wrong with giving the kids a free trip to some place they may never get to go?

The playoffs haven’t changed a thing that hadn’t already been changed 20+ years earlier.

Think under the BCS we never saw the same title game twice.

In 6 years of a playoff, Clemson-Alabama have met 3 times. It’s pretty incredible how the playoff has made CFB so much more lopsided. The top recruiting classes now are insane.

Y'alls new schtick of only being excited for playoff bowls is puzzling to me.

I understand you're just setting yourself to not be upset when you lose, but a team that hasn't won a NC in 40 years shouldn't be so uppity about bowl games.

Win the damn game and stop embarrassing yourselves every year.

No. Just noting a fact.

No. You are noting an opinion. You're entitled to your own opinions. You are not entitled to your own set of facts.

Fact: LSU spanked Georgia again this year, just like last.

Opinion: Nobody cares about lesser bowl games. Boohoo, my team didn't earn the big one (sub-fact: because LSU spanked our asses again)

Fact: It's been 40 years since Georgia fans have seen Georgia football win a championship.

Opinion: You probably weren't even born yet.

Do you understand how this "Fact" and "Opinion" thing works yet?

Guess the bowl games mean something now that Georgia won?

Just make it to the Playoff? I'm not seeing the issue here.

Everyone acts like this is something new. Bowl games that did not include teams vying for a national championship never meant anything. Go back a ways and they were played after the champion was crowned. They were always intended as a reward for the team and the fans.
Do you honestly think commentators just started discussing more important post season games during meaningless post season games when the playoffs started?

Clearly, I love LSU making it to the playoff to compete for a National Championship this year. However, I do not think the playoff is healthy for college football as a whole, and the lackluster interest in the bowls and lackluster interest in playing in those bowls by the NFL bound athletes from the various schools competing in those bowls is NOT a positive for college football on a whole.

I still think the bowls are very important for college football in rewarding the teams for a good season, giving them a chance to move up in the final rankings, showcasing them on national TV for recruits to see them, and for the fans to enjoy watching more football at the end of the year.

Nothing positive comes from them going away or losing interest in them.

I disagree.

Prior to BCS and CFP most of the bowls were inconsequential to the national championship. They were played for pride and show.
The only thing bad about the current setup is the tie-ins which don’t produce the best matchups. No one likes the B12-SEC tie-in. It’s stupid. No one like the G5 tie-in. It’s stupid.
