Haha all I remember is that Pelini has some aggressive and very good defenses. Glen Dorsey was recruited and developed by Pelini. He was a monster that killed opposing offensive lines.

Pelini is a high energy guy and a good DC. Great hire for LSU.

Hell, LSU made Chaves look like the best DC in college football for years.

LSU gonna be good next year.

Pelini had talent at LSU. He didn't have anywhere near that at his other stops. This is a good hire for the Tigers.

He'll actually have more talent now than what he did 15 years ago too.

You mean the team that went 7-6 and lost to ULM? I'm not sure what that means.

Bama still had the 15th ranked scoring defense that year and 17th in opponent YPP. That was a solid defense and coached by Saban.

So yeah, putting up 38 on that defense is a feather in the cap for Arkansas that year. It was by far the most points you gave up all year.

Point is that McFadden, Hillis, and Jones were unreal that year and quite hard to stop. Giving up 28 to that crew in regulation is not something that worries me.

Nah, that defense was bad. Really bad. The staff suffocated teams we had equal or more talent than, but certain teams just overwhelmed us. We literally couldn't stop Arkansas from getting 5 YPA at least basically the entire 4th quarter. If I remember right they tried to throw on a 3rd and short or something idiotic late in the game that allowed us to drive down and win.

People are getting more scared. Our defenses were the shite when he was at LSU, and then he just went over to Nebraska, which we've seen how they've been performing lately, right? And averaged 9.5 wins per year over a 7 year stretch as head coach before getting fired so he could be replaced by Mike Riley, who proceeded to go 6-7, 9-4, 4-8 before he got fired to be replaced by the golden child, Scott Frost, who has gone 4-8 and 5-7 thus far.

ETA: Need to reiterate. Nebraska has had one winning season since he was fired. He never won less than 9 games a year there, and led them to 2 conference title games and a bowl every year he was there. Just saying.

He led YSU to a FCS title game. He's struggled the last three years, no doubt, but he's had mad success everywhere he's been.

Y'all is scared, and should be, because with the talent he is inheriting on this D, which includes Stingley and Stevens back in the backfield, along with No. 1 CB Elias Ricks, we should be back among the elites next year. Now, we just need Brennan to be really good, not Joe Burrow good.

As y’all said, Bo was hired at Nebraska to improve the defensive performance. Nebraska was at #74 the year before Bo. He improved them to #55 in year 1, and #2 and #8 in years 2 and 3. That’s pretty impressive.

Beyond year 3 is comparing apples to oranges since Nebraska changed conferences.

Nebraska got what they expected from a football perspective. From an university image perspective, not so much.

I mean I don't know that it means a whole lot, but they clearly had more underachieving units once they went to the B10.

From what I remember, he had trouble finding guys up front and it kind of sank the whole unit. They still had some good players at LB and in the secondary, but they never had any elite bigs up front after Suh left.

They took some absolute beatings those last few years he was there - 63 to Ohio St, 70 to Wisconsin, 45 to Georgia, 41 to UCLA, 41 to Michigan St, 38 to Iowa, 59 to Wisconsin, 34 to Iowa, 45 to USC.

Correct. He couldn't recruit the right talent to fit what he was trying to do in the Big 10. When he had talent up front, he was unreal.

He won't have issues getting the right talent in Baton Rouge.

So you’re saying they got worse after they improved?

That’s not a good look for Bo.

Will the melt continue all year? I sure hope so.

You obviously spent a lot of time putting this post together. There is no way in hell I would spend even 10 seconds looking up old stats on another team's new DC.Pretty fricking sad

Well, that's probably because your entire purpose here is to scream MELT or LSU DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Which is fine, I guess, if that is your fancy

We can. It’s irrelevant since he’s not the hone ad coach at LSU, but we can discuss it if you want to.

Yet here we are comparing BIG 10 offenses to SEC offenses.

My preference would have been to only review the Missouri Valley days, but I thought the discussion would turn out about like 75% of this thread has. Defensive and/or pissy.

I know guys like Hugh McElroy ruin it for the rest of us but it'd be nice if you could just throw a "no troll" font or something on this board.

I love the Bo Pelini to LSU idea.

LSU has (7) 300 lbs DT (2-gap) on the projected 2020 depth chart and not a single 250 ~ 260 lbs DE body type.

Changing from the 3-4 heavy front to a Pelini 4-3 two gap system without the personnel will be fun to watch.
