LSU won the national championship in 2007 with Bo Pelini.
A1abana went 2-6 in 2007 with Coach Sabah

LSU has (7) 300 lbs DT (2-gap) on the projected 2020 depth chart and not a single 250 ~ 260 lbs DE body type.
Changing from the 3-4 heavy front to a Pelini 4-3 two gap system without the personnel will be fun to watch.
If I remember correctly (and I might not), Pelini used to run a lot of zone and blitz from the secondary quite frequently. Wonder how that has shifted with RPOs and all the new fangled toys offenses are implementing.
I also would be curious what the situation was at Youngstown in terms of scheme and implementation - was it his or was he pretty hands off? His brother was there early on but he was gone after a few years.

LOL, check out the big brain on the alter. LSU's supposed worse defense in a decade just shutdown the two top offenses in CFB and won a national championship; we alright...

Well, that's probably because your entire purpose here is to scream MELT or LSU DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
Well it's the truth. There is an extremely odd obsession with LSU's success here. It's bizarre to say the least.

It's a SEC message board you simple minded doofus. Not every thread discussing LSU is a troll or a melt.
Some are actual discussion about a team in the SEC who just hired a new coordinator. It requires putting on your big boy thinking cap to actually read the words and differentiate between the two, I know, but I swear that you are capable.

I don't see how LSU fans can't be somewhat concerned about this hire.

The weight is an easy fix. NO rice in the gumbo. Worked wonders for Shelvin.

There would be some reason for concern with every potential hire except maybe Leonard.
Bringing up what Bo’s defenses did when he was HC at Nebraska and Youngstown State, while seemingly relevant, were obviously not situations where he had the same talent he will I’ve at LSU. When he did have somewhat comparable talent at Nebraska he did as well as could be reasonably expected, especially on defense. He’s not going to have a talent problem at LSU though.
Being bearish on this hire doesn’t make a lot of sense when you really look at it.

Yea I don't see any reason to think it's a "bad" hire. I think it's more of a curiosity to see what this version of Pelini looks like compared to the 2005-2007 version.
I'm sure somebody will write an article about what the situation at Youngstown was and if it was his scheme how it changed from the previous years, because I'm sure it has (everyone's has had too).

The thing that just jumps off the page is that he had better defenses at LSU than Aranda. Im happy as hell over this hire

Yeah hearing/seeing the answer to that question is my big curiosity for the presser and spring
Though I do hope he brings back the delayed safety blitz just for Mac

Just from a fan perspective, the attacking defenses (assuming done well and not insane crazy) with pressure from all over at all different down and distance are just more fun and entertaining to watch. I feel like they are better and more disruptive, but I know that isn't always the case. However, they absolutely are more fun to watch.

I remember the Tiger walks from when I was a kid and Pelini was our DC. Everyone would line up screaming "Blitz Pelini, blitz!" My dad and I still say that to each other every now and then so this hire brings back a lot of good memories as well.

Feels similar to the way a lot of us feel about Pruitt

From what I remember, while Dave the best defensive game planner I have been seen at LSU, and yes that includes Nick Saban, he struggled getting to plan b or c timely. Bo, though not in Dave’s class schematically, always adjusted pretty well on the fly.

Yea that was always my same thought about Aranda. His initial gameplans out of the box always seemed to be absolutely on point. I mean, what he did to us this year is a prime example of that - and last year in the 1st half, for that matter.

It seemed like he would have a good plan b or c ready, but if the other team had something he wasn’t expecting that’s where he ran into issues. He couldn’t come up with a plan d right then and there. Which makes sense as he’s a super deliberate guy.
