Biggest myth in the SEC: Hostility of LSU fans.

You see it all the time. Horror stories of Baton Rouge. Piss balloons, getting beat up, and general unpleasantries associated with being around LSU fans. It is the biggest lie among SEC lore.
Their fans are the biggest cowards I've ever been around. They are aware that they have the bad reputation, and that alone usually works well enough for them, so they do their little tiger baits anticipating you will walk away in silence. However, if you show the least bit of resistance, and start yelling shite back at them they become shocked and confused, and quickly offer you food or beer to ease the awkward situation.
The bad rep came from the true hard cases they had as students in the 90s, those drunk assholes had no fricks to give. But the current generation has just coasted by on that rep alone and doesn't have any balls of their own.
Try it out next time you're in Baton Rouge. Someone tiger baits you, yell back "frick you, motherfricker" and you'll have them stumbling over their words so bad they won't be able to apologize fast enough.
Their visiting fans are even more pathetic. They generally walk around with their heads down, and quickly agree to embarrass themselves in front of all the generic uncreative corndog traps you see around. They think as long as they wear backwards flat bills and graphic tees that the dainty OM folks will cower down, but instead they just get laughed at. After wins, they are too afraid to even celebrate and generally try to leave campus as quick as possible.
So don't be afraid to go visit next time your team plays there, there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Plus, you'll be able to go sit some great seats once their fans start leaving in the second quarter.

Can't win on the field, so win the battle in the stands

I'm pretty sure ever fan base has a bunch of drunk idiots save maybe Vandy. I feel you'll meet good ones more often than not and is unfortunate when anyone meets the idiots.
Sorry your experience was the bad kind.

I've posted about it several times. When I went back in 2008 it was the exact polar opposite. 03 was the worst I've ever been treated at an away game, 08 was likely the best.

This is type of hate I wanted to see 2 years on my first trip to the Grove. Instead, yall were begging us not to beat you by 50. Which we were nice enough not to do, thanks to 4 knees.
