If you're converting to gas soon and doing a kitchen renovation anyway, I'd highly recommend installing a 36" unit if you have a 30" stove. At least 3" on each side of the stovetop is recommended, I sure wish my cabinetry allowed it, speaking as someone with a 30" 600 CFM quality ducted vent ove...
