As mentioned in another post, bowl games are concentrated in warmer climates for the fans. Nobody wants to pay several hundred dollars for a ticket and then have to remove 12" of snow before they can sit down.

I don't really mind myself since I live in the south now, but I really don't see the enjoyment of going to Tampa over Denver in January. Tampa is warmer of course, but there is a ton more to do in Denver IMO, and it's ski season which I mentioned earlier. Add to that the fact that a lot of NFL playoff games have no problems selling out in the north and I wish they would at least add a few more north of the Mason-Dixon. Watching the Pinstripe was in the snow

Then the second and third SEC teams face the top ACC and top Big 12 team in the Peach and Cotton(It is the peach, f**k any other name)

I always thought Cotton/Outback/Peach bowl were 3,4,5 depending on the teams left to pick from, and the Cotton likes having a West team there while the Outback likes having an east team. Is that not true?

The bottom line is this: If northern cities appealed to the fans, more bowl games, including major matches, would be held in the North. Bowl committees and sponsors want to maximize their intake of money. The South sells.

Buckeye06,

Here are the last 10 cotton bowls
January 2, 2004 (16) Mississippi 31 (21) Oklahoma State 28
January 1, 2005 (15) Tennessee 38 (22) Texas A&M 7
January 2, 2006 (8) Alabama 13 (20) Texas Tech 10
January 1, 2007 (10) Auburn 17 (22) Nebraska 14
January 1, 2008 (7) Missouri 38 (25) Arkansas 7
January 2, 2009 (20) Mississippi 47 (8) Texas Tech 34
January 2, 2010 Mississippi 21 (21) Oklahoma State 7
January 7, 2011 (11) LSU 41 (18) Texas A&M 24
January 6, 2012 (7) Arkansas 29 (11) Kansas State 16
January 4, 2013 (9) Texas A&M 41 (11) Oklahoma 13

After the 2006 game, it was the SEC 4, but that is because the SEC 2 was a BCS at large. Prior to those years it was the SEC 3. In the 2008 and 2009, it was also the Big 12 3 as the Big 12 had a BCS at large.

I don't know about the desire to have a West team. They have taken A&M and Mizzou as representatives from the Big 12, so I would presume they are trying to take the true 3 or 4.

It's 2-4 or 3-5 depending on if one or two teams get in the BCS from the SEC. It's not required but I think it's preferred that they take the west the peach takes the east team. But not always the case.

Then generally the 5th SEC team faces the third best Big Ten team in the Outback. We actually get the toughest match ups in the bowls considering we basically face the best of the best of the big ten, acc, and big 12.

Except for the years when the Big Ten or SEC had two teams in BCS bowls and that has happened a lot. Big Ten 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Conversely, the SEC has had two teams in BCS bowls in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. So, there are some instances of playing up that occurs when one conference had two teams in and the other didn't.

No other conference comes close to the Big Ten and SEC in this regard. Most of them only get one team in a year.

This is a good discussion, but I can't in good conscience discuss football with a fanbase so morally lacking. All the arrests, the probation, the emphasis on athletics over academics - it's just sad.

In the SEC we believe in playing football the RIGHT way. You Big Ten fans should be ashamed at the emphasis you put on sports. Children have been harmed. It's just sad. Get some perspective, Man. It's just a game.
