Clearly LSU is not. The whole conference revolves around Alabama and Tennessee. LSU is treated like a bastard step child even though it has more national titles in all sports than any other original SEC school.

I wouldn't dumb the SEC down to 3 powerhouses, we're a pretty stacked conference.

The SEC East is just like the Big XII North-one good football program (Florida,Nebraska) and one good basketball program (Kentucky, Kansas) but nothing else.

I know we have had a down couple of years, but we have been to 3 Final Fours, 3 Championship games and won 2 back-to-back titles in the past decade. At the very least, UF would be considered a good program. Very few schools have multiple titles in basketball.

I don't think your list counts football or LSU's 1936 basketball title.

I think it's up to 46.

If you just count Men's Titles Arkansas has way more Titles than LSU... BTW, please don't claim that 1936 Title in basketball...It was awarded by the American Legion..seriously

LSU was invited to a post season game which was billed as the Natioanl Championship - sponsored by the American Legion. It wasn't just their poll.

The game matched SEC champion LSU vs Eastern Intercollegiate champions, Pittsburg.

The game was played, LSU won the game, LSU was named National Chamopions, LSU recognizes it and has a banner for it in the PMAC.

If you don't like it, why don't you go ahead and discount all of Arkansas' MNCs in football?

Ooops.

BTW, if we just counted football, basketball and baseball, LSU has way more than Arkansas.

But LSU has titles in 8 sports, I believe. Not just mens indoor.

Fact: LSU has more national championships than Arkansas.

Deal with it, pig.

I am not trying to be a homer just bring facts to the table. LSU is the only program in the SEC with double digit conference titles in baseball, basketball, and football. They have three titles in each since 2000. They were second in titles in football, tied for second in basketball, and tied for first in baseball since 2000. UF is their only peer in overall performance in the biggest sports since 2000.

So it is really LSU and UF alone at the top in overall athletics.

You then could look at historic programs in one sport (Bama or UK) or you look at the next overall program that doesn't include them.

I would say 3 is probably UGA if you consider the whole package.

Everyone know Bama is a bunch of bitches eventhough outside of their football accomplishments of the fading past are great the football program in recent history is just a peer among other elite football schools. They are the only program I would expect to ever act like Texas.

Well if you're going to do that then why don't you just drop that 1964 national title from your records since it wasn't awarded by any of the major wire services?

I replaced LSU with TN because TN has been historically better than LSU. LSU is better now, but it hasn't been that way for long.

Football is what counts. It's where the money is. No one watches baseball and people only tune into basketball when the Final Four starts up.

The opening day of the NCAA tourney is one of the most watched days in sports.

EVERYONE watches the entire tourney almost.

But football is the most important. I agree.

You lost your last game in '64 and the media/fans realized how retarded it was to claim anyone is a champion pre-bowl, so no one did it from '65 forward.

With that said, both Bama and Arkansas can claim '64 as I see it.

Bama:
Angelo Louisa

Associated Press

Bob Royce

Clyde Berryman

College Football USA

Edward Litkenhous

Montgomery Full Season Championship

United Press International

Washington Touchdown Club

Arkansas:
1st-N-Goal

Bill Libby

Billingsley Report

Century Football Index

Cliff Morgan

College Football Researchers Association

David Wilson

Earl Jessen

Football Writers Association of America

Harry Frye

Helms Athletic Foundation

James Howell

Jeff Self

Jim Koger

Mel Smith

National Championship Foundation

Nutshell Sports Football Ratings

Patrick Premo

Poling System

I agree with this, but since there are so many currently equal programs in football in the SEC power moves to other sports.

When it comes down to it UT, Bama, LSU, UGA, and UF aren't insanely different as football programs. I would go as far to say losing almost any one of them would not drastically weaken the conference. I think this can be shown by how the conference was still the best when Bama dropped off from an elite level.

I also feel AU is not far behind this group.

So the problem is the top half of the football programs are peers and just don't really have much sway in the bug scheme of things.

Yeah, except no one thought Arkansas would beat Alabama straight up if they were to play.

As a matter of fact, Arkansas went 1-6 vs SEC during all of the 1960's, including 1965-66 when the undefeated pigs lost to an 8-3 LSU team in the Sugar bowl. Their lone win in the 60's came against UGA in the 68-69 Sugar Bowl.

If Arky had scheduled an SEC team for 1964, they wouldn't have been undefeated at the end of the season.

Because our 1964 Football Title is CONCESUS...Ever looked at the ESPN Encyclopedia of Football?? Our 1994 BB Title is also CONCENSUS..We actually won a tournament put on by the NCAA ...not an American Legion game.
Oh yea...ALL of our 42 ...yes 42 Track Tiltes are legit too ...Deal with it.

It's about which team brings in the most $ for the conference.

But it is an egalitarian conference. The cheese does NOT stand alone in the Southeast.

But of all the SEC teams I could see copping an attitude like Texas?

Mississippi.

Alabama's arrogant, but they know they built their reputation on us, so there is a small consideration there.

Mississippi? God only knows why...

There was no basketball tournament in 1936, just like there was no football tournament in 1964.

Yet LSU can't claim a title awarded to them after winning a one-game post-season championship while Arkansas can claim sub-standard pollsters awarding them a title after winning their one-game postseason?

Where is the consistancy?

Yes, apparently men's track is really all Arky has.

How about titles in:
Men's Basketball (1)
Men's Golf (4)
Boxing (1)
Football (3)
Baseball (6)
Women's indoor track (11)
Women's outdoor track (14)
Men's indoor track (2)
Men's outdoor track (4)

That's national titles in 9 sports, including multiple titles in 7.

We're not a one-trick pig down here, we compete nationally in just about ALL of our sports.

Golf and Boxing aren't relevant college sports. Arkansas has never won a baseball national championship. Your football championship is from the 60s. It is awesome you have a basketball title, but it along with the last time Arkansas did something was in the mid 90s. Arkansas has never played in the BCS bowls and never won a conference title in the SEC.

Arkansas is a track school and that is it.
