Basketball--they haven't done well. I'll give you that. But they've been one of the most consistent football programs in the SEC since Richt has been there, although they have not won the big one. In baseball, they did reach the championship series a few years back and should have beaten Fresno had Fresno not gotten hot. UGA also has excellent gymnastics, softball, and women's basketball programs to go along with the success they've had in the other sports.

From a budget standpoint, i think the top three were UF, UGA, and AUB. Since money pushes everything, i would say those three.

This shouldn't even be up for debate. It's Alabama, LSU and Florida.

LINK

Looks to be UT, Bama, and UF.

I didnt know that LSU's 500k higher budget than AUB was so funny.

yeah youre probably right LSU comes in 4th or 5th IN THE NCAA!

6. Old Dominion University (32 titles)

BFD. Pretty much all of Arkansas's national championships are from their track program. Same thing with Oklahoma State and their wrestling program. It's all about the big three sports (football, basketball and baseball).Let's see the programs who have won the most championships in those three sports. And quite frankly, conference expansion has shown how irrelevant college basketball is in the large scheme of things. It's all about college football and that's why elite college football programs that are pretty average in the other sports such as Alabama and Nebraska will always be in high demand.

LSU can be in the discussion, but they are not as important as Tennessee or Georgia. Feelings hurt or not...

Bama
Florida
Tennessee/Georgia

It's not about wins. It's about TV markets. With that said...Florida, Georgia, and LSU would probably be the important schools. I say LSU, because they seem to have a strong following in Texas. I could be wrong.

Based on recent BCS National Championships, the top three would be:

1, 2 - LSU and Florida
3 - Alabama

The SEC has taken the BCSNC 5 of the last 7 years; Florida and LSU have won it twice and Bama once during that time.

you're right...LSU has a huge following in Texas. I believe Houston is the 2nd largest LSU alumni base.

If we're talking just football RIGHT NOW and not all-time, then you can't really argue with LSU, UF, and Bama. If we're talking overall athletic programs as of late, the past 10 or 15 yrs or so, then UGA would have to be #2, behind florida I would think. As has already been pointed out, UGA typically does very well in spring sports in addition to being very consistent in football. I believe we've finished 2nd in conference in the Director's Cup for like 20 years.

I would expand the big dog list to 5. LSU, Bama,Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia. Anyone one of these teams could win the SEC on any given year.

ETA: Football wise that is

The SEC East is just like the Big XII North-one good football program (Florida,Nebraska) and one good basketball program (Kentucky, Kansas) but nothing else.

LSU, UF, and Bama.

Historically, TN is up there but as of right now, most schools in the SEC would listen more to LSU, UF, and Bama if those schools were trying to keep the SEC together.

I replaced LSU with TN because TN has been historically better than LSU. LSU is better now, but it hasn't been that way for long.

So??? LSU has been historically better than Florida too.
