Why did State bother to build such a nice facility?

Might have something to do with us having all of the top 11 on-campus crowds in the history of college baseball.

Do you know what stadium has the largest crowd numbers in world history? Rungrado May Day Stadium in Pyongyang at 150k. It’s still a shite country.

Then maybe they should do something about it. Like upgrade it to make it nicer. You know, like we did.

State has shite parking so traditionally they just counted every country boy that drove somewhat near the stadium as attendance. Also in the stadium is mostly standing tickets. Msu is too poor to build as many chairbacks as Arkansas and apparently won't even put up ugly bleachers like LSU. A real far cry from the best it's claimed to be. Sadly, they got rid of the grilling too.

No they didn't. Still grilling, chilling, and drinking beer in the left field lounge

Only if you can afford it and donated enough to the football program so I hear. The type of people in LF is a changing.

And keep in mind, this was in an unfinished stadium.
I don't even see MSU listed.

Lol if the worst thing you can find is our parking, I'll take it. Talk about grasping at straws.

Dudy Noble is going to be the new standard.
There is a college baseball facilities arms race right now, and the schools outside the SEC don’t even realize it. The conference is way ahead of the curve.

Sadly this mantra has led to the current facilities arm race in SEC baseball.

It's not the only shoddy aspect of your new stadium. I dont have time to list all the issues now.

If it is such a short porch, why did LSU have a hard time knocking it of the park?
Matt Clark didn't

Let me know when you have time, I'd love to hear your critique of the greatest college baseball stadium ever built.

Being cheap in baseball construction is building a shallow rake grandstand that is nothing more than concrete laid on an embankment, rather than double decking so that more fans can sit around the infield.
The outfield terrace looks to me like the best way to preserve their leftfield lounge culture, without having all the death trap, self-built seating. There is still plenty of grilling going on in their outfield seating.
The only corner they cut, in my opinion, which is admittedly somewhat a matter of taste, is not completely redoing the alignment of the grandstand. Basically, there are two ways to build a baseball grandstand, going back more than a century: (1) run the stands parallel to the foul line to some point at the edge of the infield before cutting in towards the foul line (Wrigley Field); or, (2) run the grandstand in a direct line from the end of the backstop to the foul line (Comiskey Park).
In my opinion, option 1 is clearly the way to go, but the old Dudy Noble grandstand was built using option 2, and the new park follows the same footprint. I would like to have seen them correct that, as it makes the angles down in the corner not very good (as anyone who has sat down the lines at Fayetteville can tell you), but they compensated for that by going with the double deck, and putting more seats around the infield rather than down the line, and the first base berm does cut in toward the foul line, in the limited space provided.
Overall, a great job by State.

Both have pros and cons. Option 1 puts you closer to the action, but option 2 provides better sight lines. I am happy with the decision we made to keep the old format. It all boils down to personal opinion. Solid post.

Baum's single level layout keeps fans closer to the action and field of play.
Baum also has a massive outfield berm area that lets anyone grill and bring in drinks. MSU's setup isnt as accessible for the common fan.
