Be fair on this one. Darrin Thomas was purely a system QB and was not that good. LSU shut that down and he couldn't do much. I give you the others.

Tim Tebow was said to be a system QB in his time. Danny Wuerfful was said to be too. I don't remember LSU stopping those guys. They were great in the system they were in.

Thomas had a ton of talent around him and he put up great numbers in Oregon's system. Did he not present a big challenge in that system? Only one team held him to under a 100 QB rating in his two years as the starter - LSU.

2005 USC was one of the greatest teams ever, and probably the best to not win a national title in the modern era.

2004 Auburn couldn't even beat beat 2004 LSU without an absurd call but they think that team would have beaten 2011 LSU??? :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Your point is valid and I do agree. But, I do recall Bo Pelini's defense stopping him in the 2nd half of the '07 game. It was one of the very few times I remember a defense stopping him.

Should I edit? I figured everyone would say 2011 LSU

Yes. 2002 Miami?

ETA - Also I think 05 USC gives 11 LSU a run for their money.

2011 LSU D would've given the Miami 2001 O fits. That secondary was disgusting.

It took a superhuman performance by Vince Young coupled by a few dumb coaching decisions from Pete Carroll for Texas to take them down.

not to mention an idiotic lateral fumble from Reggie Bush at the end of a huge run to the Texas 17.

But I think Texas had like three turnovers too?

That USC team had won 34 games in a row I believe and had the last two Heisman winners. It's them and it isn't even close. 02 Miami, 11 LSU, 09 Texas, and 10 Oregon all have arguments for the number 2 spot, but I think the top 5 is in the order I listed them.

texas failed to convert a 4th down in the first quarter and missed a FG in the 2nd half, no turnovers, those were there only 2 miscues IIRC.

I'm pretty sure Aaron Ross fumbled a punt early in the first quarter, and the missed FG was actually an XP after the touchdown when Young's knee was down before he lateraled it. Pretty sure that, and the missed 4th down conversion were Texas' only miscues.

you are right, they fumbled a punt. the first play of the 4th quarter was a missed chip shot FG by texas, it wasn't an xp.

You're right about the field goal. I completely forgot about that but that would have put Texas up early in the fourth. I only remember the missed extra point because Keith Jackson called it good and had no idea that it was missed. He was a great announcer, but you could tell that he was a step or two slow by the time of his last game.

LSU 2011 outscored a schedule that included 9 bowl teams and 3 teams ranked #3 or higher by a cumulative of 500-123. No one got within 2 touchdowns of LSU except Alabama at Tuscaloosa.
Had we beaten the Gumps in the Media Do-Over Bowl, or, had the BCS gotten it right, LSU probably would have beaten Okie State and been named as one of the Top 3 CFB teams in history.
