I actually expected them to pick Peyton, but I saw Reggie White play live (Eagles at Cowboys, Thanksgiving-1989). He was dominant.
yeah you're splitting hairs with those two. One has an argument for best QB all-time and the other an argument for best DL of all-time

27 sacks in a season. Unbelievable.
When did this happen?

he had 20 sacks in his second year in the NFL and 126.5 for his career. Sadly, his career and life were cut short, otherwise he still had some tread left on his tires.

I don't think MSU has had any other player who was ever considered the best at his position for a season
Cox was the best DL in the league until Aaron Donald took over that distinction

Should be Kevin Greene for Auburn.

I'd argue Darren McFadden
It's best NFL career. Not college career.

Yes i know the story.
Just thought this was about NFL achievements and 27 sacks would be a season record
Which the record right now is 22.5

McFaddens NFL career was shite

For Mizzou: Kellen Winslow and Eric Wright (safety for the dynastic 49ers) are strong candidates too.

Kentucky - Dermontti Dawson
Not sure I would put him over Art Still, Randall Cobb, Babe Parilli or Tim Couch (based on his College Productivity).
Jeez. I'm no Kentucky fan, but y'all still haven't named the obvious choice here.
Hell, Parilli isn't even in the NFL HOF.
Here are some clues: first player to score 2,000 points, holds the record (with others) for the most TD passes in a game, at 7, oldest QB to start a title game, one of only two players to play in four decades, most points accounted for in a career, 3,418.
Five other Wildcats named but not this guy. OK, granted...most of his career was in the AFL, but still.

Grew up watching him and Mel Gray (another True Son) on the cardiac Cardinal teams of the mid 70's.

Smoot was just pretty good, most of the time.
Eric Moulds made 3-4 Pro Bowls and a couple of All Pro teams

It wasn't shite, it was avg.. which was disappointing for him. The Raiders destroyed his NFL career.. along with a lot of other players.

I realize that I posted a college stat instead of a pro one. For the record, he posted 27 sacks in 1988, with a total of 52 in his career at Alabama.
His highest sack numbers in the NFL were 20 in 1990.
