To be honest, i wouldn't rank LSU as a top five destination in any sport as long as F. King is in office.

LSU spends a ton of money on baseball. Regardless on who is in office, LSU has 6 national titles in baseball and has one of the most, if not the most, passionate fan base when it comes to college baseball.

LSU also has two things going for them- recruiting in state and on a national level. LSU can recruit it self nationally and bring in top talent. The weird thing to this is that they don't even have too. Louisiana produces really great baseball talent.

Add all of this with top notch facilities, and you have the best program in the nation.

Texas is definitely number 2. I don't see how anyone can debate this. Not only do they spend money on baseball, they have the facilities, and it's in a great city.

Actually, I love LSU. Probably the only Reb fan you'll ever hear say that. A number of my ancestors were Acadians, and we have a lot of ties to Louisiana.

I love the food, the people, the school (my editor is from LSU). Great folks. Great state. I was very close to going to LSU. My best friends are LSU grads.

Now that Augie Garrido is finally stepping down, Texas will get good again sooner rather than later.

East Cobb??? Speaking of which, why isn't UGA better considering their proximity to EC?

A&M not #5. Yes they are having a great year but no way in hell they come in at #5.

LSU and Texas are definitely the top 2.

Can someone tell me a little more about Vanderbilt's advantageous way-around the scholarship limitations that the other SEC/public schools face? Do other private universities (Rice, Baylor, TCU, etc.) have access to this or is this strictly a Vanderbilt/SEC rule?

LINK

Vanderbilt endows and offers need based financial aid for the entire student body based upon a number of factors from the students background. Several privates (including recently Stanford) are offering similar programs, only large public institution I'm aware of with a similar program is Virginia. Does it help get kids in, sure, is it a program that was created to levy some kind of athletic advantage, nope.

Keep in mind though the amount of aid is purely based upon the students family. Dansby Swanson's parents made too much money to be covered by the program and he actually had to take out loans to afford Vanderbilt. At this point Corbin's track record of developing talent is a bigger factor in Vandys recruiting and success than anything.

Gotya. I remember some fans of other schools bitching and moaning about it and was unsure if it was strictly a Vanderbilt loophole or not.

Corbin is a phenomenal coach. Great guy too. I've had the opportunity to meet him a couple of times.

I only read the first page, but people seemed awfully mad that A&M was listed as top 5 when they spend a ton of money on the sport, have huge fan support, and can get a top 15 recruiting class within driving distance. It's a damn good job.

Nobody is saying it isn't. But there are other teams more deserving of top 5 than A&M

Why Florida, given the lack of facilities and fan support?

Not a troll at all. A&M hasn't been much of a threat in baseball the past twenty years as compared to rice.
