This is his record at Arkansas. It's very real.

Been saying this all off season. It was obvious that a down year was on the horizon, and for some reason Hog fans would get their panties in a wad every time I pointed this out.

Bert got way too much credit for beating some bigger name teams that were struggling at the point he was able to play them:

2014 Ole Miss
Ole Miss started the season strong, but lost 4 of its last 5 games against FBS opponents. At the time of the game, Ole Miss was not a very good football team. It was certainly not the same team that beat Alabama in September. This Ole Miss team got beat in the bowl game by TCU, 42-3. Bert played the Rebels at the right time. It made him and his team look great, but considering how bad Ole Miss finished the year, Arkansas fans put way too much stock in this win.

2014 LSU
Again, this was an LSU team that lost 3 of its final 4 games to finsh 8-4 and unranked... including a loss in the Music City Bowl. Bert caught LSU at the right time. Made him look great. But in reality, considering how bad poorly this LSU looked to end the year, it gave Hog fans far too much false hope.

2015 Tennessee
Again, timing is everything. And the Hogs caught Tennessee at the absolute beat time. The Vols began the season 2-4 against FBS teams. They greatly improved as the season went on.

2015 Auburn
This Auburn team finished 7-6 and played in the Birmingham Bowl. For some reason, Hog fans thought beating Auburn in 4 overtimes at home was some great feat. This same Auburn team also went to overtime with Jacksonville State.

Arkansas fans gave Bert far too much credit for these wins. Quite frankly, considering the timing of those games, they were all very average or slightly above average wins. But for some reason, Arkansas fans failed to notice the obvious and credited Bert as if he had beaten these teams at the height of their programs' histories.

This season has been absymal.

**They needed a 4th down conversion, final minute touchdown to beat La Tech in Week 1.

**They needed OT to beat TCU... the same Horn Frogs that nearly lost to Kansas just this past week.

**They lost to Texas A&M by 21 points

**They were destroyed by Alabama by 19 points at home (score does not accurately portray how lopsided the game was).

Arkansas' defense is giving up 6.6 yards per play. That's dead last in the SEC and #120 in the nation.

I'm not sure what you would want him to evolve on in terms offense. Our offense hasn't been the issue.

Is he still employed?

If Arkansas acts quickly there is a coach that LSU and texas are after.

Just don't schedule any service academies.

The interesting part about this year is the bad opponents they have done well against (Louisiana Tech, Alcorn State, Texas State). Alcorn under 3 yards per play, LT and Texas State both under 5.5 yards per play. Then you look at what Bama and A&M did to them (both over 10 yards/play) and it looks awful. TCU had 6.4 yards per play against.
First of all, this is wrong - it was Texas State that Arky's defense shut down (2.0 yards per play). Alcorn, a mediocre FCS team (#44 in total offense) averaged 5.5 (although I'm sure a lot of that total was against the Hawgs' second and third units). LA Tech is a pretty decent offense, so 5.4 per play wasn't bad (and they managed to hold them to only 54 snaps, which was even better). But TCU averaging 6.4 yards per play on 90+ plays is gawd-awful (in contrast, Kansas held them to 5.5 per play on only 66 snaps. KANSAS.)

ETA: Just went back to check - AU's historically-bad defense in 2012 allowed JFF and TAMU 8.3 yards per play in their worst performance. To my knowledge, AU has never given up more than 9 yards per snap in our entire history, much less 10+

If he starts losing to teams like Auburn this year

If he "starts" losing to Auburn? Bert is 1-2 against Auburn with the lone win coming in 4 overtimes at home. Losing to Auburn will be nothing new for Bert.

I was listening to Arkansas sports radio to see if a host or anyone would rip him for his record. But nope the host just said Bert can do whatever he wants the fans love him and he's doing his best. No one up there is even remotely upset at him losing. He's just completely brain washed the media & fans up there.

He also just played the number 1 team in the country, who is the defending national champion and 2x defending SEC Champion. There's no shame in losing that game. Though there's no doubt that record leaves much to be desired.

That reminds me a lot of the way Baltimore fans and media view Orioles manager Buck Showalter. Everything that goes right is due to Buck. Everything that goes wrong is the GM or owner or players' fault. It must be great to be Bielema and Showalter and get all of the credit for the victories and none of the blame for the losses.

Same record as Mike Sherman after 44 games.

As someone who listens to Arkansas sports radio daily, that isn't true. There are more calling in upset than anything else. People are applying what some hog posters said before the season to our whole fan base as of today.

Thats because Bama has evolved on O and D for the newer style of play. Bert has not. part of the demise of Miles as well, he just had far superior talent keeping him afloat

Thats a good point.

So everyone else gets credit for injuries or for 'being beat' at the time we won the game. That's as fair as usual for you, Kylie Ann. God knows we've never had any injuries- especially last season when half our offense was out at one point or another. But God bless the other teams and their struggles.

Rockiee (or any other Arky fan), what has happened to the O-line? I keep seeing Arkansas fans talk about them not playing well. Did you loses some/a lot of those hosses from the past couple of years? Or are they not playing as a unit?

We lost 3 olineman from last year. There has been a good amount of shuffling on that unit. I think most expected a step back but not this much. It is strange because they have look good in some moments but overall very bad. I expect them to slowly get better but they are starting to run out of time.

In defense of Bret/Arkansas, they've played the two best teams in the conference... with his team being competitive in both.

I hate to be THAT guy, but this game Saturday vs ole miss is absolutely huge for Beliema.

At least you guys have a record of getting stronger as the season progresses. But can they not get better for a couple of weeks, please?

The thing that is most concerning is that they could improve but still look poor due to all these SEC teams with strong Dlines
