Better than last year's defense but still nowhere near as good as they were in years past.

Elite at corner (outside and slot). Above average up front but not dominant. Maddingly erratic at safety and inside linebacker.

He had it figured out with a freshman QB last year. Hell, he has figured it out quite often under saban. saban has a hell of a time figuring out Gus' O.

As I stated earlier, let’s see if Gus has it figured out for THIS year.

Yes, because it's vastly different from every other year, homie.

He gives saban fits all the time it seems ..but tbh saban has played against some historic offenses over the last couple to few years

Gus Malzahn will change that average when he scores 24 points on Saturday.

This may very well happen. But it will take more than 24 to beat Bama.

Strange to not watch OSU/Michigan and Bama/Auburn back to back this weekend.

What about outside the confines of JH? Not much magic has happened.

and these are positions that are harder to play now because of targeting rules

we hear how great bama's D is every year. Until it isn't and then bama fans tell everybody how there have been holes all year for everybody to see.

We've been talking about holes the whole time. We're just glad they've worked on their tackling technique.

Safety is understandable because of inexperience.

Linebacker less so.

But it is what it is at this point.

Alabama's defense isn't great, but it's better than any other defense in this league. There are no great defenses in college football any more. Those days are gone.

Eh, I don't know about that. When Georgia has all their guys (they are very depleted upfront right now), they are still a very good defense. Their issue is they are great against the run but not against the pass, and obviously, you'd prefer to be the opposite in 2020.

We're very good against the pass when it comes to receivers and traditional throwing, but we are very suspect when you get your guys lined up on our safeties and linebackers. And our run defense is good, but it's not dominant.

The thing that we do very well is we don't give up very many chunk plays and we do a good job of limiting scoring in the red zone. In modern football, those 2 things matter a lot.
