All we have is two kids who have hurt their future. And again, anyone taking too much pleasure in this will probably feel the same sting when a player for their school is caught doing something equally stupid

Or when it's their own kids....

Does Louisiana have a Youthful Offender statute?

These guys may not even be eligible, but if they are, it could keep them out of jail.

A. Illegal possession of stolen firearms is the intentional possessing, procuring, receiving, or concealing of a firearm which has been the subject of any robbery or theft under circumstances which indicate that the offender knew or should have known that the firearm was the subject of a robbery or theft.

I think that's old and has been reworded. This is copied straight from the LA State Legislature website:

quote:

Illegal possession of stolen firearms

A.(1) Illegal possession of stolen firearms is the intentional possessing, procuring, receiving, or concealing of a firearm which has been the subject of any form of misappropriation.
(2) It shall be an affirmative defense to a prosecution for a violation of this Section that the offender had no knowledge that the firearm was the subject of any form of misappropriation.
(3) It shall be an affirmative defense to a prosecution for a violation of this Section that the alleged offender has or had possession of the firearm pursuant to his regular course of business, is in possession of a valid federal firearms license, is routinely in the possession of firearms for sale, pawn, lease, rent, repair, modification, or other legitimate acts as part of his normal scope of business operations, and is enforcing a privilege pursuant to R.S. 9:4502.

B. Whoever commits the crime of illegal possession of firearms shall be punished as follows:
(1) For a first offense, the penalty shall be imprisonment, with or without hard labor, for not less than one year nor more than five years.
(2) For second and subsequent offenses, the penalty shall be imprisonment, with or without hard labor, for not less than two years nor more than ten years.

The real issue is why the frick did they put themselves in this situation? fricking morons and I would say this if it were LSU players too

Because some people are just screw ups. They can't help it. It's just in them to screw up. It's just a matter of when and how bad.

If everything is as it seems I hope they are both shown the door. I wouldn't be shocked if they aren't. Whether it is 100% genuine or not (or good policy), Saban doesn't like booting kids.

I think most of the coaches dont - for the obvious reasons, dont want to lose the talent - dont want to fook with the team as a whole and so on. But I think deep down - even ole saban knows these are young kids who have had zero exposure to anything other than thier home surroundings, and knows there is a good chance if booted many of them lost the only shot they had at getting chance at a quality of life that is not the norm in their home surroundings.

In addition...Word I'm hearing is Baldwin who was dismissed a few days ago is possibly facing sexual assault allegations. Not a good week for Bama.

Some of you guys are really blind to the reality of the situation. Jails are over-crowded and funding is limited. We aren't sending first-time, non-violent offenders off to spend time in jail. If you're expecting jail time here then you are living in a dream world.

I was looking at sentencing for similar offenses, and it seems like a guilty plea for this type of stuff often results in 6 months to 3 years, but mostly suspended sentences. I don't think Saban would tolerate them coming back with guilty pleas under their belts.

Had they came to LSU, Louisiana police would have reduced it to a seatbelt violation.

Good riddance to both of these clowns, especially Cam for all his stupid comments and that infamous picture of the Bama logo on Louisiana from his Twitter when he signed with Bama.

Yes, you are reading it wrong

The possessor can be charged if "he should have known" it was stolen.

That makes the case easier for prosecution. You can't claim complete ignorance as a defense

Either way, it has zero to do with Jamal Adams and some random on a message board using a negative, life altering decision by a young man to make himself feel better about something that happened 3 years ago that is completely unrelated.

Saban is in the unenviable position of having to decide whether keeping both, essentially to keep just keep Cam, is worth the media shitstorm that will likely follow.

The problem (or maybe not problem but situation) is that Saban either (a) doesn't give a shite about the PR or (b) almost likes to cut against the grain and create "negative PR".

Like I said, he doesn't give a rip about PR for keeping/bringing kids in who have had problems. I'm all for giving kids second chances and trying to reach the ultimate goal of getting them to a positive place in life as an adult, I just don't think it is Alabama's place to always be there to help them with it.

That doesn't rule out getting the charges reduced though, does it? But how can you reduce something like that? Either it was illegal or it wasn't. Not like reducing assault charges. Just curious
