.@AlabamaBSB has two players enter the @d1baseball Transfer Tracker this afternoon:
* Bryce Eblin and Colby Shelton. Shelton is obviously the big one after hitting 25 homers and knocking in 51 runs as a freshman this season.
It came out last night, but I didn't see it posted.
That is a huge loss and a big prize for everyone else in the SEC. 1.149 OPS as a freshman!

Bama fans don't care about baseball again.

Any early names for the leader for Shelton?

They are both coming home to Knoxville. Tony V is on it.

I haven't heard/read anything, but I would assume the usual suspects.

Can't say I blame them. Go somewhere and get your school paid for. I expect a lot of Bama players to do this. COme for a couple years, pay your own way and find a place where you aren't essentially a "walk on".

Of course we care about baseball. I think everyone feared Shelton would leave for a NIL deal or possibly just go home, after a coaching change.
Eblin a solid player that would have a bigger role in 2024.
But the portal works both ways and Rob Vaughn seemed to use it well at Maryland.

That a big loss in production. Wonder why they are transferring out.

22-5 did some serious damage to what was already an extremely fragile program.
I just hope he doesn’t receive threats from all of the Alabama fans that don’t care about baseball.

Because he’s likely paying a large chunk of out-of-state tuition, even with a partial scholarship. Alabama does not waive out-of-state tuition for athletes. His stock is high and he will get a good NIL or full tuition coverage somewhere.

So no actual answers wanted. Just trolling nonstop. Got it.

We all get the 7.4 or whatever it is scholarships for baseball. In LSU's case, he didn't go to high school in La so he doesn't qualify for TOPS money. This isn't a knock on Bama, but if you cant find some NIL money for your top returning player in any sport, another school certainly will. I am willing to bet that's not the case and its more about him testing the waters with the coaching change.

It's absolutely the case. I don't blame him, but it sucks. We just don't have fan/booster infastructure in baseball like some others in the conference do. He also only has 1 year of college left due to his birthday (at least that seems to be the case, not confirmed), so he'll be a 2 and done guy and not 3 and done like most.
Just going to need another true freshman coming in to step into his shoes like he stepped into Zane Denton's shoes. Tough ask.

Slate Alford might be a possibility. Lots of talk of him coming to Alabama the last 24 hours.

We have to win a different way, which is why I'm glad we hired a guy who already has a history of succeeding in situations like that. Different animal here, but similar dynamics at play.
