Lots of very talented rosters are not elite teams. That 2020 team for any variety of reasons put forth the best TEAM effort I have ever seen at Bama. Saban noted the same saying it was the "ultimate team" of his career.
It is a team sport. Cohesion, selflessness, effort, execution and discipline can overcome a lot.

To be fair the asterisk was applied by a bunch of butthurt tony the tiger fans.
If the state university of louisiana won it all in 2020 we would not even be having the conversation.

I think Bama’s 2020 title is as legit as anyone’s and have no problem with it.
However, I do think it is beyond stupid to put the GOAT conversation as some have done.
They were great in a difficult year but they are not in the same category as 2019 LSU.
Hell, I don’t think they were as good as 2019 Bama (or other great Saban teams at Bama)

LOL that's rich coming from a fan of a team that basically occupied a spot in the title game/playoff for an entire decade

Yeah, all myth stories tend to be more compelling than the objective truth, especially when it comes to Bama

Literally LOLed at this since it was during a heavily modified Covid year where Alabama somehow in defiance of mathematical probability didn't have a single player miss a game due to Covid protocols
I've already laid out my argument for why I don't count 2020 Alabama as one of the historically great teams ever and certainly never above 2019 LSU and never will, but they deserve to count it as title #18 and in the NCAA history books as a title

This is cope. If 2020 bama played 2019 bama (at the same level of health of the LSU game) the 2020 team is beating by 2 TD min.
You propping up 2019 lsu.

Well that's a very speculative and conjectural claim considering both teams operated within 2 fundamentally different contexts
Let me get this straight: the 2019 Alabama team, who before they faced 2019 LSU thrashed their opponents by an average score of 47-15 had
Najee Harris, Brian Robinson, Keilan Robinson, and Jerome Ford as their RBs
Henry Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy, Jaylen Waddle, Tyrell Shavers, DeVonta Smith, John Metchie, and Slade Bolden as WRs; Miller Forristall and Cameron Latu as TEs
and you're claiming a team with Mac Jones as its QB and really only DeVonta Smith as Waddle missed half of 2020 would beat it by

2 TD min
Yeah, that's stupid on its face

Any team with Mac Jones as their starting QB should never be considered the best of anything
29 players on the 2020 Alabama roster were drafted by an NFL team, including six first round picks in the 2021 draft. That is tied with 2004 Miami for the most 1st round picks in a single draft. The 2020 team had 10 players overall selected in the 2021 draft. Mac Jones was one of those. In 2020 Mac Jones had a higher quarterback rating than Joe Burrow did in 2019.
Mac Jones resume - 203.1 QB rating, 3rd in Heisman balloting, set NCAA record for highest completion percentage in a season, 41 TD vs. 4 INT, led nation in passing yards, won the Davey Obrien, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, and Manning award for nations top QB, 1st team all SEC, 1st team All-american, SEC scholar athlete of the year. In the NFL he made a pro-bowl. He is among very rare company.
Other award winners on that team.
Patrick Surtain Jr. - unanimous 1st team all-american, SEC defensive player of the year, 4 times pro bowler (in 4 seasons), NFL defensive player of the year in 2024
Devonta Smith - Heisman winner, unanimous 1st team all-american, Biletnikoff award for best wide receiver, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp, AP and Sporting news college football player of the year awards, Paul Hornung award, SEC offensive player of the year. Set NCAA and SEC record for receptions in a season, set SEC single season record for receiving yards and touchdowns.
Najee Harris - finished 5th in Heisman balloting, unanimous 1st team all-american, won doak campbell award for nations best running back, Holds Alabama record for most all time rushing yards, yards from scrimmage, and touchdowns.
Only two teams in history have had 3 players finish in the top 5 of Heisman voting - 1946 Army and 2020 Alabama.
Some other players on the 2020 Alabama team.
Brian Robinson Jr
Jaylen Waddle
Alex Leatherwood
Landon Dickerson
Christian Barmore
John Metchie
Christian Harris
Malachi Moore
But by all means continue to embarrass yourself by saying they aren’t even in the conversation of great teams.

I think if you had success in 2020 and you want to talk about it, that's fine. I also think if you didn't have success in 2020 and want to write the year cause it was a weird arse year, also fine.

By all means, continue to stretch hard to convince an audience that a covid season team belongs in the same galaxy with the great teams of all-time
lol Mac Jones, flash in the pan 1 year in the NFL then relegated to backup probably proves his 2020 numbers were illusory than indicative of football greatness
Will give it up to DeVonta though despite that Saban's Amite bagman steered him away from LSU AND Georgia, next to him, a lot of those other players have thrived in the NFL. Not sure how Metchie's been though, they ain't no scrubs.
He sure did a great job leading Bama to victory over Auburn in 2019 oh wait he didn't!

Ok but I also presented who comprised the 2019 team with Tua as QB

You mean consensus All-American and winner of the Walter Camp Award in 2020, Mac Jones?
Or maybe you should have in mind the Manning Award winner — Recognized as the top quarterback in college football in 2020.
Or maybe it was when Mac Jones became the first Crimson Tide quarterback ever to receive the Davey O’Brien Award after directing Alabama to a national championship. Overall, he completed 311 of 402 passes for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns against just four interceptions. His single-season completion percentage (.774), passing efficiency rating (203.1) and total quarterback rating (96.1) all set NCAA records.
In addition to topping the nation in those three categories, he also was tops in passing yardage and was second in passing touchdowns. He also finished third nationally in points responsible for (252) and fifth in total offense per game (336.6). In 13 games, Jones threw for more than 300 yards eight times, eclipsing the 400-yard plateau on five occasions. The Mac Attack also threw four or more touchdown passes eight times.
He set CFP/BCS National Championship game records for completions (36), yards (464) and touchdown passes (5) in a 52-24 win over Ohio State. In his final three contests, Jones combined to complete 94 of 118 pass attempts (79.6 percent) for 1,179 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Yeah, that's what I mean. That Mac Jones.

Jamarcus Russell is one of the top 5 quarterbacks in LSU history.
quote:
When evaluating all-time LSU quarterbacks, Russell generally sits inside the top tier of the modern era (alongside names like Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, Tommy Hodson, and Matt Mauck). While Burrow and Daniels captured Heisman Trophies and set higher statistical ceilings later on, Russell's 2006 season remains one of the most efficient and dominant single years in the SEC, ultimately driving his historic selection as the top pick in the draft
Remind me how he did in the NFL. And explain how that had any impact on how he played in college.
And you discount Mac Jones making a pro bowl. But since 2020 only 24 quarterbacks have made a pro bowl. Mac Jones is one of them.
You just have a chapped arse because Alabama won the national championship and Jones swept all the QB awards in 2020.

So many words and numbers uttered to show such pride in covid season stats and a player who's now a career backup in the NFL
hope you're proud of yourself and excited to now go 6 years without a natty

Your tantrum is a perfect example of why the OP started this thread.

Six years isn’t too bad. It is one year less than LSU. And it is much less than the 50 years, 45 years, and 12 years, between three of LSU’s.
