I am sure those guys prepared and get just as pumped up as possible when they played those other guys. Alabama is a different team, and they get every ones best shot. It's not just another game.

Run the ball and eat clock. Let the Bama Bangs QB hit a few play action passes. Maybe a few roll outs.
Ah, the good ole days. I like that description. Except now, we just put one of our dreadlocked running backs taking all the snaps instead of the Bama Bangs QB.

Kyle - I told you if we scuffled on offense against LSU I'd be concerned. Well, I'm concerned. I think our offense is very similar to Auburn's at this point. We manhandle teams that can't tackle and we struggle against teams that can.
The offensive line just hasn't proven they can deal with big, athletic DL, and we are going to see 3 more weeks of them (if we are lucky enough to get to Atlanta). That has been the biggest problem in all 3 of the games we have struggled in on offense (FSU, A&M, LSU). Luckily, Jalen looked very good against LSU (it really doesn't matter what the stat line says), but he has to get some help from his young receivers catching tough balls with a step on defenders and he has to keep playing that way.
Either way, concerning especially with all of our defensive injuries.
But hey, I'm not gonna be pissed that we aren't guaranteed a title. Just going to have to find ways to win tough games. If we do, we have a shot. If we can't, we don't.

Agree. And there is nothing wrong with that. Saban should embrace that strategy. He hasn’t won a title since converting to the spread.
Uh 2015 ring a bell?

Me either. I'm telling you it's the knowledge or lack thereof that will hurt Bama with all of those young players. With all of the motions and misdirection LSU ran it created confusion and Auburn does that misdirection a lot.

You left out something the data doesn't say, at NO point in any of those games this year was the game in question. Sure they made some pity points at the end to make it look respectable but if you watched all those games like most of us did, you'd know the Saban freaking choked their life away. He didn't need to boat race to 50 points. All of the games were in hand.
We know, they know, and you Georgia fans know it. Bama is going to rip out your soul so bad in the championship game that you miss the playoffs. Posts like this will just place you in a greater fall emotionally.

Now can you go back and break down each of those games and tell us why Alabama's offense performed "below average" compared to the other opponents? It's easy to build a narrative around numbers, but numbers never tell the whole story.

How'd UGA do vs Notre Dame's defense comparatively to Wake Forest?

You post this like it's some new thing about Alabama under Saban.
It is. For instance last season, on a yards/play basis, Bama produced 7.9% more yards per play against Washington compared to Washington's other P5 opponents. Bama produced 25.1% more yards per play compared to Clemson's other P5 opponents.
quote:
Outside of the Kiffin years, Alabama has never really had a great offense.
Again, not true. Go back to 2013. Against Bama's four Top 25 opponents that season, they averaged 11.7% more yards/play than LSU's other P5 Opponents.... +26.7% nire than Auburn's... +33.3% more than A&M's.... and +46.7% more than Oklahoma's.

I mean that's nice and all
but at no point in this season have I even begun to felt like Alabama wouldn't win the game they're playing
we're on cruise control until Auburn, then we'll see

Yeah pretty much this. We’ve won all but one game by at least 14, and aTm rallied to make it an eight point game.
I guess I’ll melt though. If LSU fans can be happy about losing by 14, I can be pissed by not winning every game by 40.
No reason to melt. But I think there is plenty of reason to be slightly concerned. Neither FSU, A&M, or LSU are great teams. LSU is "good" but certainly not championship calibur. The other two are semi-decent, but very flawed. If Bama is winning these types of games by 14 points, how close will the games be when they play Auburn, Georgia, or potentially Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, etc.?

Very good analysis. Will be fascinating to see how this team responds down the stretch. I think Bama gets past MSU with no real struggle. MSU has proven they can play well against crap teams, but they were physically dominated against both Georgia and Auburn. Bama should have no trouble with them.
The Auburn game followed by a potential epic matchup with Georgia are going to be fun to watch. Right now I give Bama the slight edge against Auburn, and against Georgia its literally a 50/50 coin toss.
To be honest, I'm not totally sold that Georgia is the best team in the country either. We barely eked out a win over Notre Dame, and while we were in control the entire game last week against S. Carolina, it wasn't the lopsided win we were all hoping for. The potential is there to win a championship. But there are several tough games yet to be played.

It's one of those things where you watch your game and come away pointing out all the flaws, then you watch other games and realize.........there isn't anybody out there just BETTER than my team. You could apply this to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma even Auburn, Washington, Penn State, etc.
The round robin down the stretch with Auburn/Alabama/Georgia (plus our game at State) will all be super interesting. I really don't have much of an idea what to expect.

This is what I come to tRant for. To hear a fan of a team who hasn't played for a natty in nearly 40 years call out a team who has played for 5 of the last 8. Telling them to shape up.
It might be Georgia's year. And maybe all your research has uncovered a fatal flaw in the Bama team. Have some perspective though, and just enjoy the ride the Dawgs are on

There are a lot of Bama fans in denial and quite a few that make excuses for our offense. Bottom line is that teams with just a decent defense pretty much shut us down. We have a quarterback that can run at will against teams like Ole Miss but any decent defense keep him contained on the ground and they know he is a below average passer so single coverage works every time.
I figured all of this out early in the year and after we couldn't get it done against A&M I had all the evidence I needed.
Nick Saban with poor quarterback recruiting plus getting away from the physical pro style offense in favor of a spread flavor with a running quarterback has led to what you see now. Of course this is just my opinion but Saban isn't perfect and I think it was foolish to abandon the philosophy that won him 5 national championships.
Anyway, our defense is pretty good even with third string linebackers. It isn't as good as last years but that defense may never be replicated. That will give us a chance in any game but Auburn and Georgia will probably beat us because of our offense. Can't win it every year I guess.
