transfer portal will change high school recruiting as well
If you can add transfers that signing class doesn't know how it impacts their spot

Love that we are recruiting well, but you can't help but be sad for the kid. He is pretty torn up about it on social media, really was excited about playing for us. I hope he does well where ever he ends up.

It sucks but it's the nature of the beast when you're hard capped at 13 scholarships. We're butting up against the limit too and may have to process someone before all is said and done.

We signed someone new and didn't have enough room. Though we haven't been told he was chopped to make room, it gives that appearance

It looks a little bad right now but I will wait until we get the real deal. If Bama actually cut him then I expect his parents to let the truth be known.

With 13 scholly spots and no hard cap for how many you bring in, this is what it will be like moving forward. You might as well cut bait with underperforming current players or commits/signees you dont feel great about and replace them with someone clearly better in portal.
NCAA really doesnt get what is happening here. There are literally going to be so many players in the portal there wont be near enough of schollies available in D1 to take them all.
Wade said he's looking for 3 more transfers before he got Xavier Pinson. Now that we got him, he's looking for 2 more transfers, we are currently at 13 scholly players, including leaving Cam Thomas out as you expect him to declare. So 2 current players or signees are going to be out.

Its the nature of the beast. A beast they helped create. Hopefully these players that are no longer wanted and losing their scholarships #respecttheuniversitysdecision

I really, really hate it for the kid in this case (Langston Wilson), but the reality is that we are going to see more of this around the country due to the revised transfer rules and additional eligibility created as a response to COVID.
There are simply too many players available for the number of scholarship spots allowed.

There are currently enough players in the portal to fully man (13 scholly) 76 teams (almost 77). If it does hit 2000, you're talking 153 teams and over half of another. That's 43% of all Div 1 teams (currently 21.5%).
That's freaking absurd.

I think the bigger issue will be for new recruits. In theory there will always be spots for D1 players transferring to other D1 schools because of the hole they leave. The problem is that there are going to be many JUCO and high school players that lose their scholarship in the spring because the school they are committed to gets an amazing transfer.

This season is different. Transfers are being gathered knowing they are not going to have to sit out. This is what free agency looks like at the college level.
