No doubt yalls running game and defense should be pretty damnfriggentastic...but w/ an unkown qb and less than top tier receivers (imo)..will that be enough to win the SEC...dunhdunhdunh.....
And Alahunter, what u been drinking on tonight? U are really reaching with this 'Bama football stuff' thread..its just so unlike you...should we be worried? Even though I'm an AU fan I've grown kinda fond of ya (no homo) and hate to see you sick like this

Will Bama run the wildcat still? Richardson taking the snap and Hart in motion?

Some of you guys worry way too much. Maze and Hanks are both very reliable WRs. Deandre White, Duron Carter, and Gibson all have the ability to play well and contribute. If the QB play is there and oline comes out solid this offense will be one of the best in the SEC.

I think we'll be just fine too. I think many are underestimating Hanks, as well. He averaged over 14 yds per catch and isn't afraid to go over the middle. He's made some tough catches before too. He just hasn't been thrown to alot. I think there is plenty of talent to go to now and it'll be interesting to see how the QB's progress in utilizing all that talent, or to see if they zero in on one specific. I think, in a way, Julio being gone, might help the passing game. How it affects the running game will be interesting to see too. Several of Ingram's long TD's were attributable to Julio opening him up with some key blocking downfield.

If we can't develop someone at WR who scares defensive coordinators, every D we face is going to stack the box 2009 Auburn style against us to the point of where the offense becomes anemic. I could see at least a 10 PPG drop in scoring. I'm very optimistic about the upcoming season, but I think people are forgetting about our WR issue. At every other position we reload year after year, but at WR we have not developed enough talent to reload. Julio Jones was our WR corps and they are nothing without him until someone mans up. I hope it is Duron Carter but that is a lot to ask of a 3 star JUCO transfer with a famous daddy.

No. He's not. He also thinks that Greg McElroy was a better QB than Peyton Manning. FYI.

Nope. As a whole, it may help. There were times he was keyed in on and no other receiver got a look. I think with him gone, alot of the other talent in the receiving corps could be utilized and it'll force defenses to cover the entire field, instead of just half the field in passing situations. Julio had one third of all receiving yards last year, with over 1100. The next closest was Maze with a little over 500, followed by Hanks with a little over 400.

Don't mistake what I'm saying. Julio, was hands down our best receiver while he was here. I think sometimes the rest of the passing game suffered though when passes were forced to him that just weren't there sometimes.

If Carter doesn't step in as an all star right away, we don't have a single #1 caliber WR on the roster. Find me a guy who can get us a goal line TD catch? Our TE's are run blockers outside of Smelley. Maze is a jitterbug who made plays in single coverage against #2 corners. At any other position I assume the talent is sufficient to reload but our WR coaching has been so poor I have no faith in that area to reload.

I think Norwood could have a very productive year if he sees the field much.

Not having Julio will prevent whichever QB wins the job from locking in on one receiver whenever he feels pressured or confused or whatever. Any defensive coordinator with half a brain would know that the ball is going to Julio if pressure is applied, and could call his coverage to take advantage of that.
Losing the best WR in school history is obviously not a good thing, but I think a steeper learning curve should benefit our QB long term. It will at least force them to make good decisions with the football instead of just lobbing the ball up to Julio.

The weakest link on our coaching staff has been by far in receiver coaching. We have signed numerous elite prospects and not a single one besides Julio (who never actually improved over the course of his 3 years) has amounted to anything

Carter is no Julio. Not even that close really. He's a big, solid WR, but not a 1st option
Tell us more Coach.

Along with the pistol, and a few other wrinkles that McElwain will add.

You might could argue that if McElroy was still the QB, but with a new QB he wouldn't have the tendencies to throw to a WR he hadn't worked with extensively. A new QB would really need a presence like Julio Jones.

We'll be fine at WR. We don't have a Julio, but most teams don't.

A healthy Menzie and Barron being able to play deep and not having to help a young secondary is going to make Bama's defense scary good this year, I think.
I think with Mosley and Dupreist we're starting to get much better coverage from our LB's without any drop-off in stuffing the run.
I am cautiously optimistic Bama's defense will be the best since Saban has arrived.

Settle down people. Our DBs are fricking animals, that is the only reason the WRs underwhelmed. Its pretty crystal clear. Our WRs will be just fine. Cant wait to see the Tide dominate this seasom.
