In this case it’s a no brained. You go with the guy who has proven he can have success following Saban

I assume they would go after a Saban protege like Pruit or someone.
No

Might’ve been Mullen f he was still at MSU.
I highly doubt that.
Bama at this point has the ability to target any elite, upper echelon coach they want right off the bat then work their way down. There's no way one of their main targets would be a guy whose only HC experience is at MSU and has barely won anythign of note while there.

Sumlin. He would be successful at any elite program.

Adam Gase and Bill O'Brien are 2 NFL guys that I'd be very intrigued by, especially if their NFL careers stay middling.
Gase was a Saban guy at Michigan State for 1 year and then LSU for 3 years and is universally thought of as a very bright football guy. He specifically worked with recruiting and was the full-time recruiting assistant for Saban at LSU, so while it was quite a long time ago the whole process wouldn't be foreign. O'Brien did a very solid job at Penn State and nothing through that whole process seemed too big for him. It was really impressive.
For current college coaches outside of Dabo, I'd say Fuente and Franklin would be my Top 2 right now taking in all factors. Meyer, Harbaugh, Peterson, Shaw are all good/great but they aren't real possibilities IMHO.

Didn't say I'd like it but who else besides Dabo, or Jimbo excite you. Urban is a pipe dream and I don't care for him anyway

I think you forgot Chris Peterson.
He is fairly young, has Washington at their peak, and I'm sure he want a a title at some point.

Funny you said that because I just edited in a qualifier.
I don't think Peterson would want to come to Alabama. I don't think anything about it fits him. I think he's a great coach, but I don't think it would happen (same with Shaw, who I don't think is as good as Peterson).

This guys if he proves he can sustain success at Clemson.

maybe I'm overstepping a little bit, but how would Alabama boosters react if Alabama hired a black head coach? I know times are different, but I think it would be remiss to discount that some people are still living in the past.

I would HOPE that it wouldn't even enter anyone's brain, obviously. I am just about 100% certain that even if it did people would never be brazen enough to bring it up in any sort of company that would be necessary to mount a defense against it. Especially with a forward looking AD like Byrne in charge.
Now, it wouldn't shock me if some "old guard" folks were taken back by his "loudness". It obviously would just be qualified with "that isn't how we act here", but it wouldn't surprise me for there to be some smattering of that type of talk (when it wouldn't exist for, say, Dabo). But hopefully it wouldn't at all.
I never say never, because this world sucks, but I wouldn't think it would be a problem if the guy is a winner.

I don't think Shaw would come here anyway so it's not something we would find out.

Shaw should stick to the his PAC 12 gig. Football in the Left Coast is a still a sport. Not so in the SEC. Shaw would be eaten alive. JMO

Ozzie Newsome, Franklin, Dino Babers, Shaw, ... all would be fine with me. I don't want Sumlin, but not because of his skin color.
