2019 was done for more job security. That man's seat was heating up again. Alabama has won so much that it doesn't mind taking one for the conference every once in a while to ensure everybody is happy.
The loss also doesn't affect them that much as they're still always considered one of the 4 best. It's a win, win for everybody.

17- didn't really care. Bama devastated by injuries and Bama still made the playoffs and won the Natty
19- hurt more, Bama had no business losing that game. Bama shredded Auburn's defense and held Auburn below their average on offense. Bama was devastated by injuries again. Mac Jones lost Bama that game with pick sixes.

What sucks is that if Bama wins the Iron Bowl...they likely get the #4 seed thereby denying LSU a bye in the CFP semifinal and saving that non competitive OU football team and their fans from an embarrassing beat down on National Television.
